Paul McCartney live: Forum, Montreal

Paul McCartney performed at the Forum in Montreal, Canada, on 9 December 1989.

It was the 38th date of the Paul McCartney World Tour, which lasted for 102 dates across 14 countries between September 1989 and July 1990.

The performance of ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ from this show, and ‘Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying’ from the day’s soundcheck, appear on the 1990 live album Tripping The Live Fantastic. Furthermore, the recording of ‘Good Day Sunshine’ was released as a b-side of the ‘Birthday’ live single in October 1990.

McCartney’s band was Linda McCartney on vocals, keyboards, and percussion; Hamish Stuart on guitar, bass guitar, and vocals; Robbie McIntosh on guitar and vocals; Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens on keyboards and vocals; and Chris Whitten on drums and percussion.

Montreal was incredible. We’d been playing big arenas and we were suddenly in this hockey arena where Montreal Canadiens play and somehow it felt very small. The atmosphere was incredible, a great night. They’d had a major tragedy happen days before, a multiple murder and the whole city was affected by it and there was an air of relief and celebration about the gig I think because of that. It was the coldest weather we hit too and one of the warmest audiences.
