Wings live: Empire Pool, London

Wings performed at the Empire Pool in London, England, on 20 October 1976.

It was the 64th and penultimate night of the 65-date Wings Over The World Tour, which ran from September 1975 to October 1976, and the second of three consecutive nights in London.

Wings were Paul McCartney on vocals, guitar, bass guitar, and keyboards; Linda McCartney on vocals and keyboards; Denny Laine on vocals, guitar, and bass guitar; Jimmy McCulloch on guitar and vocals; and Joe English on drums, plus a horns and brass section consisting of Howie Casey, Tony Dorsey, Steve Howard, and Thaddeus Richard.

The Beatles played at the Empire Pool on 21 April 1963, 26 April 1964, 11 April 1965, and 1 May 1966.

Wings returned to the venue, which was by then renamed Wembley Arena, on 7, 8, 9, and 10 December 1979. Paul McCartney performed solo concerts there on 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, and 26 January 1990.

  1. It was that day, the one before or the one after when, along with my girlfriend, I attended Wings Over Wembley. I was a member of the Wings Fun Club, so I acquired discounted-cost tickets, and we sat opposite centre stage, maybe four rows in front of the photographers’/orchestra pit: that is, matter of FEET from Paul. So how much was my ticket? If I remember correctly, £3.50!
