‘True Love’ is the seventh song on George Harrison’s seventh solo album Thirty Three & ⅓.
The song was written by Cole Porter, and first appeared in the 1956 musical High Society. A duet between Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly, it was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Harrison’s version of ‘True Love’ – the only cover version on Thirty Three & ⅓ – was released as a UK single on 18 February 1977, with ‘Pure Smokey’ on the b-side. It failed to chart.
The delightfully silly video featured Harrison – wearing a boater hat and blazer – punting on the river in the grounds of Friar Park. The clip, designed to echo the ‘True Love’ scene in the 1956 film, was directed by Monty Python’s Eric Idle.
