‘Travelling Light’ is the fourth song on Electric Arguments, Paul McCartney’s third album as The Fireman.

It was the first song on the album to take shape in the studio. McCartney found inspiration from an album of sea shanties released by Youth (Martin Glover), his collaborator on the Fireman projects.

I’d been listening to a CD of sea shanties, and Youth runs a folk label called Butterfly.

They put out these compilations called What The Folk, so he’d sent me them. As a result, ‘Travelling Light’ is a folky sea shanty, and we took it from there.
