The final track on Paul McCartney’s 2012 album Kisses On The Bottom was one of only two new original compositions.

Together with ‘My Valentine’, ‘Only Our Hearts’ was a new song in a collection otherwise made up of cover versions of classics from the great American songbook.

‘Only Our Hearts’ also featured Stevie Wonder on harmonica. Wonder and McCartney had not worked together since they duetted on the 1982 international number one ‘Ebony And Ivory’.

In the studio

‘Only Our Hearts’ was recorded in March 2010 at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. The orchestra arrangement was by Johnny Mandel.

The song was recorded with a wholly different set of musicians from the other songs on the album. Uniquely for Kisses On The Bottom, Diana Krall did not feature on the recording.

Previous song: ‘The Inch Worm’
Next song: ‘Baby’s Request’
