‘Great Cock And Seagull Race’ is an outtake from Paul McCartney’s sessions for his second post-Beatles album Ram.

The instrumental track was recorded at New York’s A&R Studios on 23 February 1971, under the working title ‘Blues’. McCartney played all instruments.

More overdubs were added on 17 December 1971, with a new coda containing more guitars, electric piano, and tambourine.

The recording was mixed later that day by Dixon Van Winkle, and McCartney played it during an appearance on WCBS-FM. ‘Great Cock And Seagull Race’ subsequently appeared on bootleg collections with the title ‘Breakfast Blues’.

The track was officially released on the 2012 reissue of Ram.
