‘Cosmically Conscious’ is an unlisted track at the end of Off The Ground, Paul McCartney’s ninth solo studio album.
Although an excerpt of the song closed the album, the full 4:39 version was included on the ‘Off The Ground’ CD single.
McCartney wrote ‘Cosmically Conscious’ in 1968 in India, while studying Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It was, however, never recorded by The Beatles.
‘Cosmically Conscious’ was performed live on just one occasion, during the Change Begins Within benefit concert for the David Lynch Foundation on 4 April 2009. McCartney shared a microphone with Bettye LaVette, and the other performers included Ringo Starr, Moby, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Sheryl Crow, Angelo Badalamenti, Hartford TM Choir, Donovan, Jim James, and Paul Horn.
