I did not know it was not an official album for the majority of my existence so it’s basically just habit for me. I 100% get what you’re saying though Walrian! (I wonder what @silverhammerYT would have to say on the issue…)

I think it was not intended to be an album, but when it was released in the US with all those singles on it, it kind of became an album, if that makes any sense. I have always considered it an album. Idk.
Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

I’m not the kind of person who’s at all informed on technical stuff, so the whole is-it-a-real-album thing is kind of foreign to me, but the way I see it: The American Magical Mystery Tour looks, to my untrained eye, like an album. It has eleven songs, and they’re all real Beatles songs. Sgt Pepper ‘s is an album. It has thirteen songs, and they’re all real Beatles songs. I don’t see much of a difference.

I have always found it a pretty easy distinction, The Beatles “proper” albums are those that were released by Parlophone/Apple in the United Kingdom between 1963 and 1970, excluding A Collection of Beatles Oldies as that was just the first Greatest Hits album and has been superseded many times, with the addition of Past Masters addressing the issue of non-album tracks and rarities, apart from the big 1967-shaped hole in it.
In the UK in 1967, these eleven songs were issued as the A- and B-sides of three singles and a double-EP. Understanding that EPs had never really taken off in the US as they had in the UK and Europe, they took a commercial/financial decision to allow Capitol to put together another “US-compilation” the type of which had been banned under their new shiny 1967 contract because they felt their music was not being presented in the way they wanted.
In agreeing to the Capitol MMT, they also – again using the terms of the 1967 contract – banned its release in the UK, with it not receiving a UK release until about 10 seconds after the 1967 contract ran in 1976 and the (approx.) decade-long battle between Apple and EMI/Capitol over control of The Beatles music.
It is an understandable inclusion in the catalogue when all parties have agreed terms for the 1987 CD reissue programme, it does make sense, but it is not an album that they went into Studio 2 with the aim of coming out with an album when done, unlike Pepper, Revolver , Rubber Soul , etc..
Those albums were their artistic vision whereas MMT, its original 1967 US-release and its 1987 reissue release, were a recognition of the commercial sense.
The distinction makes them releases with different intentions.

I’d also add that for it to be a proper Beatles album, all songs must be recorded by The Beatles, which disqualifies Yellow Submarine , since only side A contains Beatles music, with side B being the orchestral score. So for me, The Beatles discography only has 11 albums and goes like so:
Help !
Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band
The BEATLES
This also means that The Beatles released 5 albums in a row that are among the greatest of all time.

That’s my take on it too. To me, MMT and YS are just nice extras.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

…you’re currently assembling the White Album jigsaw puzzle alluded to in the Crimble thread last week, and you’re hoping that your knowledge of the song lengths and sequence and loudness levels will help you determine approximately where an undifferentiated image of black vinyl grooves will place an individual puzzle piece within the whole.
(So far, it’s worked with ONE piece. So, uh, SUCCESS, I guess!)

… you’re playing Oregon Trail (because I have no life) and when it asks you to name the people in your wagon, you write the names of yourself and the Beatles. Then, when Paul gets a fever and a broken leg and John gets lost for four days, you freak out. Never before have I been so invested in the health and safety of my waggoners in Oregon Trail. (sadly I deleted the tab on accident so we’ll never know if we would have survived.)

The thing about Oregon Trail is that if you put the names of people you care about, it can break your heart. So I was hesitant to try it with the Beatles’ names until now. (I figured it would be good motivation.)
I started a new round with the same names. Fingers crossed no one dies.
