Yoko has given an interview to ‘The Daily Beast’ where she discusses a range of topics including the possibility of John’s murderer being released from prison, sexuality (including John’s), living in the Dakota, drugs, receiving the ICON award, and Paul.

Going back to the previously mentioned above ‘Esquire’ interview Paul gave, Yoko was asked about it in ‘The Daily Beast‘ interview.
Ono and Paul McCartney have had a long, checkered relationship. Tensions seemed to ease between them, but then—in August’s Esquire—McCartney bemoaned that the glory of the Beatles had been, since John’s death, centered around Lennon.
McCartney told Esquire: “Yoko would appear in the press, and I’d read it, and it said ‘Paul did nothing! All he did was book the studio…’ Like, ‘F**k you, darling! Hang on! All I did was book the f*****g studio?’ Well, OK, now people know that’s not true. But that was just part of it. There was a lot of revisionism: John did this, John did that. I mean, if you just pull out all his great stuff and then stack it up against my not-so-great stuff, it’s an easy case to make.”
Ono was surprised to read that, particularly as she and McCartney had just been together at a dinner, seated at the same table, “talking about good things.”
Does she feel close to McCartney?
“I think it’s a very strange situation. We were kind of like stuck with a situation for 30 or 40 years, so we understand each other—let’s put it that way. What he said in Esquire, I think he’s really right.”
“I mean, he must have suffered a lot, just like I suffered more or less the same thing in a way. So I understand. I’m sympathetic to him for having all sorts of pain. Most people think that Paul or me should not have any pain at all because we are so privileged. But it’s not true. The degree of pain is always there.”
Does she feel they need to forgive each other in some way?
“No, no. We had to come to terms with the past in some way. Both of us are pretty self-sufficient in that sense.”

While listening to my JWL collection over the weekend, I made my way through the Some Time In New York City album. In certain songs sung by both he and Yoko (‘Attica State’ for example) it reminded me that, while John had always had an “edge”, Yoko helped keep it sharp. Whether they were right or wrong about an issue, they always seemed to support each other to the hilt. In any relationship, that’s about all you could hope for. The rest is gravy.
Thanks, Yoko.

One of these days – that “bonus” disc – sigh.
Oh? Just mumbling to myself. I WILL get past this one and on to the rest of the albums I need to listen to 🙂

I love the bonus disc. You just have to like noise to like it, I think.
Indeed!
And @Zig, it was actually Frank Zappa I was worried about 🙂
As for the noise – if I can manage Neil Young’s Arc album I guess I will be able to manage this one again (one day, umm, soon).

I’ll leave it to ET to bite on that one if he is feeling reckless 🙂

I meant it in a nice way………She’s never said this but it sounds like something she might say…….. and it could be seen as the creed she has lived by…..
“When we take one foot Off The Ground we are walking in the sky………’ That’s so true Yoko.
I’m just sitting on a sofa looking out to sea and I can see now it’s like I’m sitting on a cloud in heaven……….
I think I’ve tapped into Yoko’s cosmic aura at last.
I think if we met we’d get along famously…….

I like how much she made John happy.
I like how much she strives to protect his legacy.
I like the lyrics to her song ‘We’re All Water’…a lot.

Not sure I agree with that.
Selling song licenses to advertise cars is not a way of protecting his legacy. Plus I dislike how John is presented to ensure the image sells.
I could be here for a while trying to find something i like about Yoko. I dont dislike her as a person, i cant find the want to care either way about that.

I’m not sure how you made the connection between protecting his legacy and selling merchandise. To me, they are two very different things. I like how she does the former and dislike how she does the latter.

I dont believe for a second if John was here today he’d want ‘Instant Karma ‘ being used to sell a Volkswagen, Ford Focus or whatever it was; that Sean came out and said it was fine and it was to keep John current and in the public eye was utter bullshit.
Not sure how thats protecting John’s legacy as it looks like milking his music for a quick buck.

I think we are talking about apples and oranges my friend.
My idea of her protecting his legacy are things like having a hand in the Imagine Peace Tower, the Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park, fending off Macca’s ridiculous pleas of changing Lennon/McCartney to McCartney/Lennon…that kind of stuff. One does not have to like any of that – I do.
Like you, I don’t think “milking his music for a quick buck” is protecting his legacy either. Maybe I did not make that clear in post #355.
Although, to play devil’s advocate, what if little Jimmy asks his Mom who that guy in the advert is. To which Mom may reply, “sit down Jimmy and let me tell you all about John Lennon “. Legacy preserved and continued onto the next generation thank you very much. Yoko and Sean can choke on the money.

Hahaha! I know what you mean.
Just don’t try to sell a John Lennon Officially Licensed Toenail Clipper Cozy to our friend mmm. You’d look funny walking into the ER, needing to have it removed from a bodily crevice.
