Not sure where to put these tidbits but I think they belong here. They are from John Lennon , the Stories Behind Every Song.
I didn’t know that all The Beatles except John performed at Eric Clapton’s wedding in 1979 except John. This book says he would have joined them if he had known about it in time. It knocks a hole in the popular theory on here that Yoko prevented a Beatles reunion.
Also, I have seen people use Yoko’s Double Fantasy song “I’m Moving On” as evidence that John and Yoko were about to get divorced. The song was written in 1973.

John was never asked because no one thought he would attend considering he was not responding to folks messages and was keeping quiet. Not sure how that knocks a hole in the idea that Yoko stopped a Beatles reunion as she could have as much as stopped John if she knew as let him go. You can look at it either way. The Yoko stuff comes from things like John going back to her on the eve of his planned visit to go meet Paul in the beginning of 1976 and blocking Paul’s call to John during the recording of ‘Double Fantasy ‘. John planned to go for the former but never did. There may be others.
As for I’m Moving On’ she could very well have been planning to leave John and that brought the song back to mind. After all John and Yoko first split in 1973. Who knows.

@Expert Textpert The way I read it (I forget the source), Lennon said he’d have gone if he’d gotten the invitation. That’s an important variation as it leads to the question, “What happened to the invitation?” Hmmm….

There wasnt an invitation as Clapton and no one else thought John would go if asked as he had been living very quietly and not getting back to those who left messages. I’m sure Clapton or someone or other has spoken of it.
Found this quote attributed to Pattie
“I did feel remorseful afterwards that I hadn’t invited John to our wedding party. “But I knew he wouldn’t come. He was living in America at the time and the authorities were threatening not to allow him back in if he left the country.

Yoko Ono Talks John Lennon, Art, and Paul McCartney’s Complaints
“PAUL IS A VERY SENSITIVE ARTIST.”
Paul McCartney recently told Esquire UK that he’s a little dissatisfied with the way that Beatles songs are all credited to Lennon-McCartney, even if John didn’t contribute to them. What do you think about that?
Well, I’m sure he has so many painful memories. Somebody who was very close to him as a partner passed away. At the time, John was only 40, and none of us thought he was going to go. That must have been a great shock to Paul as well. I think that he’s also a very sensitive artist, so instead of expressing his sorrow in a direct sort of way… He just wanted to say some things that he didn’t want to say, probably, but he just said it.?

I think that happens a lot with Paul over his life. When his mom died, he made a comment about how they won’t have her money.

I believe she’s reflecting on the fact that John’s death created an increased insecurity in Paul about how his contribution to The Beatles will be viewed, that the songwriting credits are a part of that, and that Paul wouldn’t worry about such things to the degree he does were John still here today. It’s almost a “Paul feels the need to justify his role, he’d rather not feel that way, but he does, and sometimes he says things that are easy to view negatively, but that is just Paul’s way of dealing with the weight of John’s murder.”
That’s how I read it anyway.

The question is a lure…….The inquisitor in this telephone interview wants to stir up old troubles. There’s some justification for the question as its the statement of Paul’s that had grabbed all the recent headlines…..He’d like a new one.
Yoko react’s with some blah blah that doesn’t answer the question….but seems sympathetic in tone.
Avoiding any discussion of the argument Paul claims they have had since John’s death over this issue…….
She puts it back on Paul. It’s Paul’s over ‘sensitivity’, ‘He’s being silly but I understand why.’
