I discovered this incredible website earlier today, and I’ve spent hours delving in and out. It’s an archive of old magazines, and I’m particularly interested in the UK music publications:
https://worldradiohistory.com/…..UK%20Music
I’ve attached some interesting things I discovered, but please, please, if you find anything of interest please post it here. For example, before today I didn’t know Brian Epstein was planning a third Beatles film in 1965, or that the North American tour that August was also to have included a Mexico City concert.
Genuinely, I would appreciate people sharing stuff here that they learnt from the archives, along with Title, Date, Page #. If it’s new to you it’ll be new to other people too.
I’m particularly interested in the date of the first gig by Paddy, Klaus & Gibson at Downstairs at the Pickwick, on the night of the Dental Experience. It was sometime in early 1965 but the gig listings are a bit haphazard. If anyone spots anything at all about it please let me know.

Here’s something good I discovered yesterday: a competition to win George’s Futurama guitar, in the October 1964 issue of Beat Instrumental Monthly.
The guitar was used extensively in Hamburg, including on Ain’t She Sweet .
The winner was announced in the December issue:
It gets better though. According to Andy Babiuk’s Beatles Gear, the winner didn’t want the guitar and accepted cash instead! The publisher, Beatles Book Monthly’s Sean O’Mahony, kept the guitar.
The guitar sold for £250,000 in 2019:

This one is from the August 66 Beat Instrumental looking at Revolver .
The previous album Rubber Soul also had a tricky one from George as you can hear in the Think For Yourself outtakes.

Errr… What’s Paul talking about? When I listen to the song, all I can hear are 4/4 bars!

You could possibly argue that it switches to a bar of 2/4 for “filled with” etc, followed by a bar of 6/4 (“things to say…”). The change of chord mid-bar (if we’re keeping to 4/4 throughout) might have been what threw McCartney during the recording.
