Why does it matter what time of the year and if it really does matter,Because they weren’t together for all of it, if you can be a first gen fan after breakup, then everyone on this forum is a first gen fan.
But was he a fan when he first heard the Beatles?
I didn’t say fan after breakup, I just said till the end of 1970. But anyways, yes he has been a fan since his beginning.

Why does it matter what time of the year and if it really does matter, Let It Be was released on May 18th, the same month my cousin turned 3. If we’re saying first gen fan is someone old enough to remember The Beatles while they were still around, we should give them until the end of 1970. Although if you must know, one of the memories he said he had was listening to some Beatles songs on the radio while going to a restaurant with us for Easter, which landed on March 29th that year.
It’s kind of funny you said something about Easter when replying to @Starr Shine? because he looks like the Easter Beatle. Also, do you or your cousin remember what songs were playing on that car trip.

This may be a little late, but congratulations, Bill is now officially a 1st gen fan according to the rule we made up, although barely.

Not to get off topic or to reply to an old post, but you’re a 1st gen Elvis revival fan, but a 2nd gen classic Elvis fan.
That’s ironic because I became a fan in the 70’s listening to the 50’s music, and now I am more a fan of his 70’s music.

So you’re saying that you liked The Beatles while they were still around?
No, you do not have to like them while they’re still around to be a first generation fan. I am saying that I am the first in my line of ancestry to be a fan, which makes me a first generation fan.

But you are ignoring the poll that was made which declares you must be a fan from 1960 in order to be first generation. Majority rules, man.

That’d be the equivalent of telling me that Sgt. Pepper is the best Beatles album of all time because a poll said so, but what if I prefer The Beatles or Abbey Road , is that a wrong answer. This question has more than one right answer to it, so 1 poll isn’t going to convince me otherwise.

I think there needs to be different tiers of 1st gen fan, as someone born in 1941, 1951, and 1961 can all make solid arguments that they are 1st gen fans, although they all experienced it in different ways. I am using three fictional males as examples. The guy born in 1941 would’ve experienced it as an adult, so he might’ve bought all of their albums the day they came out, went to all their concerts and watched all their movies (except for Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine ), listened to them while in Vietnam, and might’ve even put it on for his children. The guy born in 1951 would’ve experienced it as a teenager, so he might’ve talked about them and swapped records with his friends at the lunch table, drew pictures of them on his paper instead of doing his work, saved up his money to buy one of their records or go to one of their concerts or movies, and would listen to them while doing his homework. The guy born in 1961 would’ve experienced it as a child, so he might’ve got into them through their TV show that he watched every single episode of, listened to the songs in the car with his parents, listened to his parents records, and went with his mom to see Yellow Submarine .

It doesn’t matter when you are born. There can be a first generation Beatles fan born in the year 3000. Being first generation just means that you are the first in your line of ancestry. When I say what generation American I am, I start counting at my great and great-great grandparents because they are the ones who were first born here. I do not start counting at Christopher Columbus because he has no relevance to my existence.

Your definition is only true for you and your family, @Little Piggy Dragonguy, and is a personal experience, when what this thread is about is the definition of the first generation who communally experienced The Beatles while they existed. They are two entirely different things.

Well then the title of the thread needs to change because it is very misleading. I thought it was talking about what a first generation fan is and what a second generation fan is. Also notice that the title is “Where do you draw the line…”. I didn’t realize that “you” does not include me and that my opinions are unwelcome in this thread. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thanks for explaining the meaning of this thread better than I could’ve myself Ron Nasty. Also, @Little Piggy Dragonguy, did your grandparents like The Beatles back in the 60’s because sometimes it skips a generation. I think it’s safe to assume your grandparents were born anywhere from 1948-1960 and would’ve been the right age to be into The Beatles, so did they like The Beatles back in the 60’s.
