Name the song, where it was written, and one thing you learned about the song that you didn’t know. The info can come from Joe’s pages or elsewhere. If you get the info from somewhere else, let us know where you found it.
Only **one** song per post.
I will keep a running list of songs, in alphabetical order, that have been mentioned in a spoiler in this post.
I Want To Hold Your Hand – The basement of Jane Asher’s parent’s house – It was the first song The Beatles recorded using four-track technology; their previous releases had been completed using just two tracks.

After 3 tries I couldn’t find the location of the songwriting, so I’ll do an easy one.
Dear Prudence – Written in India by John about Mia Farrow’s sister Prudence, who never left her tent in Rishikesh due to her fanatical obsession with meditation and enlightenment. Lennon wrote the song to coax her and bring her “out to play”
Fun Fact: This was the second song to be recorded with an 8-track after Hey Jude . Using this new technology at Trident studios, they were able to record it in one take recording a basic track and overdubbing other layers on top.
-Joe’s article on Dear Prudence .
*I’ll keep looking for more locations that aren’t India and post more.

Written at John’s house at Kenwood during a time they needed more songs for Rubber Soul .
In a quest for more treble-y guitars, they put 3 times the allowed treble effect on the guitars. And no one complained.

Interesting tidbit I just read in the Brian Wilson biography Catch A Wave about Back In the U.S.S.R:
“For Mike (Love), the two weeks in Rishikesh would become the highlight of his life, both for the spiritual education he received and also for the glittering company he kept while he was there. For years he would describe how Paul McCartney came to him one afternoon, acoustic guitar in hand, singing the first verses of Back In the U.S.S.R and explaining how it was inspired by all those Chuck Berry and Beach Boys songs about traveling and girls. And as Mike always loved to point out, he had right at that moment told Paul exactly how he should write the bridge of the song, talking about how the girls in this place were so hot and the girls in that place were so cool… like “California Girls,” geddit? And yes, Paul got it, all the way from the Moscow girls to the one name Georgia, so perpetually on his mi-mi-mi-mi-mind.”
(Peter Ames Carlin, page 135)
Kind of makes me dislike Mike Love a little less. But I’m still very mad at him, and that phoney should disband the so called “Beach Boys ” he tours with today.

And another one they were working on to meet the Rubber Soul deadline…
Girl
from here : “composed during one of Paul and John’s writing sessions out at Kenwood,” John’s home in Weybridge.
Part of the music was actually written by McCartney while on a Greek holiday in September 1963.

I’m Only Sleeping was written in John’s house in Kenwood, St. George’s Hill.
In order to achieve the acoustic guitar sound, they recorded the instrumental in Em, while the song is heard in E flat. The vocals were recorded lower, and raised to match the instrumental, which already had been lowered. These alterations are what give the dreamy effect of the song.

Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite was written in John’s house in Weybridge, inspired by an 1843 victorian circus poster that he purchased in an antique shop in Sevenoaks, Kent while recording a promo for Strawberry Fields Forever . He hung the poster in his room, and wrote the lyrics nearly verbatim from the poster aside from a few minor name and location changes. With the speculated help of Paul, he sang the phrases at the piano until he had the song.
For the wild circus section, nineteen pieces of tape were used, randomly piled onto each other, although it required more intentionally layering to make the song sound cacophonous and random.
“I threw the bits up in the air but, amazingly, they came back together in almost the same order. We all expected it to sound different but it was virtually the same as before! So we switched bits around and turned some upside down.”
-Geoff Emerick

Did the Beatles keep track of where they wrote songs while they wrote on tour?
I’m so glad you posted this pic.
‘I Saw Her Standing There ‘, originally titled ‘Seventeen’ was written in the front room of the McCartney residence located at 20 Forthlin Rd, Liverpool L18 9TN, UK. Many sources cite this fact, including our dear BB – https://www.beatlesbible.com/s…..ing-there/.
The pic posted above is widely believed to be of the boys working out that very song.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

From Me To You was “written on the Helen Shapiro tour bus on the 28th of February 1963” – Revolution In the Head
It was number one for 7 weeks, the third longest reign of a Beatles song behind Hello Goobye and Get Back .

Every Little Thing was written in August 1964 during The Beatles’ first full US tour (in Atlantic City).
Take six was aborted when Paul burped a vocal instead of singing it.
Wonder if he said “Pardon me” or if they all just had a belly laugh.
