I tried to do a search for a thread on this subject before posting and to my dismay there doesn’t appear to be a thread about the prospect of a new Beatles film for the modern era
There’s the Ron Howard documentary and there was going to be the movie about Brian Epstein but that will now be a TV series
With all the new music biopics I think it would be great for The Beatles to have one and it would expose a new generation to their work. And the story seems epic, with the right director it would certainly be a major blockbuster at the theaters.
What do you guys think?

I think that if one was made, I would rather have a completely fictional one like the Beatles fight a dragon since their are already several biopics about their history and countless books about it.

^ (edit: the ^ goes to Don.W’s post) Paul and Ringo could play themselves! They could use Hollywood magic makeup and wigs to make them look like their younger selves.
In case anyone is interested in reading about the Ron Howard film, see the Beatles Live Project thread.

I saw Jersey Boys a couple years ago when it came out which is about the Four Seasons and I thought that was a really good movie (I’ve also seen the play which is even better).
It would be cool if they made some kind of Beatles musical like that, though it would probably bother me that the songs were all covers and if the people didn’t look like them, but I would be able to get over it.

There’s an interesting idea, but isn’t Faul too tall to play Paul?
Just playing but it would definitely require them to be at the top of their acting game . . even though they would only be required to play themselves. Paul did just get cast for that Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I think Paul and Ringo’s best role for the movie would be as producers to oversee the project – I was thinking Mark Lewisohn could be used as a writer or perhaps as a consultant since he seems to know everything down to the amount Ringo tipped the barista when he ordered a coffee on the second Tuesday of March 1964 (/end hyperbole)

I think that would be a great idea for a cartoon, I would love to see a return of The Beatles cartoons. As for the movies, I know it’s been done before but I don’t believe any of them had the music licenses . . plus they’re old now, we need something new for the big screen to show their story and introduce their music to the youth.

That was a cool movie, I really liked it – plus there was the James Brown movie. The NWA movie and the upcoming Tupac movie. It seems Hollywood is cashing in on a new era of music biopics . . I don’t think it’s a matter of if, but when – perhaps I might be projecting my own interest but I believe that even today it has the potential to not only be the most critically acclaimed movie of the year based on the strength of the story but also one of the biggest blockbuster releases. The story would definitely be worthy of a longer movie rather than a shorter movie that is missing pieces or a movie that only covers one piece of them, it would probably attract an older crowd who has the attention span for a longer film and the story would be interesting enough to maintain the interest of the younger millennials learning about their story for the first time. Starting with them as teens in Liverpool . . getting to the point where John is performing with The Quarrymen and Paul McCartney watching from the crowd, them meeting . . moving along to the days in Germany, getting rejected by labels . . then Brian Epstein, the deal with EMI, meeting George Martin, cutting the first demo/singles, radio going to America, Ed Sullivan, Beatlemania . . back in the UK for the studio years, drug influence . . then break-up. I think you end the story at the rooftop concert
Then release an official soundtrack . . and of course you’ve gotta capitalize on it by re-releasing the entire catalog from the original masters in 32 bit, 192kHz

If anything decent came out it would need to be after Yoko, Paul, Olivia and Ringo have died as otherwise it will be the most bland dull movie ever seen. They can’t even sanction the official ‘Let it Be’ so what hope we we have for a gritty true account of what went on even if played by actors.

Yikes . . you think they would want to sugarcoat the story?

A really good biopic needs to:
1. Get the casting of Paul right. In every bloody biopic there is, he comes across as goofy.
2. Stop portraying John as a miserable sod who makes everyone else around him miserable. I’m sure his life had some happy moments!

AGREE!!! I’ve seen some pretty good Lennons, but Paul is never really right.

At this point, the Beatles acting would be more for the people who can actually appreciate their “acting.” Including their songs would be a completely different matter. Having another Beatles movie with a plot or more dialogue than songs wouldn’t be good for marketing. Even 20 years ago, this might have been different. Now it just doesn’t make sense.
However, having a musical-type movie with perhaps Paul and Ringo playing secondary characters, would rack in money. Are the Beatles really remembered for their acting?

Would prefer it if they used the animation to do something else Beatley. Cant see why anyone wants a remake of ‘Yellow Submarine ‘.

Yoko would want sooooooooooooo much of herself cut out from the Let It Be movie, that there would be nothing left.

I’m not as sure as you are about that. Say what you will about Yoko, I don’t think she regrets anything she has ever said or done.
To me, her qualities include strength of conviction and much self confidence.
