I’m right handed bur I have been playing some Beatles Rock Band bass left handed and it is interesting how some of the skill transfers over to the other hand. I am able to play some expert songs with my left hand. On my right hand I can beat every song on bass.
Hmm, I might have to try that.
I once taught myself to write with my left hand hand in case I ever broke my right. I was a serious student back then.

Ugg….if this is true…
Oklahoma Pre-K teacher allegedly calls being left-handed ‘evil’ and ‘sinister’
A 4-year-old was allegedly forced by his teacher to write with his right hand, even though he’s left-handed.
The child was sent home with a letter about how left-handedness is often associated with evil and the devil.

Are people really discriminatory towards people who are left-handed? XD I always saw it as a cool quirk and nothing wrong… I thought discrimination against gay people was the weirdest type of discrimination there could be. I guess I’ve been proven wrong.

Anyone in their right (or left) mind wouldn’t think lefties are bad, evil, or wrong. There are just some folks who are out of their mind to hold to beliefs like this.

“Sinister” is latin for left.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

That might explain why some think left-handed people are evil and associated with the devil and whatnot
But, really? Why would someone do that? I’m a righty myself, but I for some reason play golf as a leftie. It’s ridiculous how people think this stuff. Just plain ridiculous.

I’m a righty myself, and my left hand is considerably weaker than my right. However, I do catch myself doing quite a few things with my left hand regularly. I tend to grab things with my left, and I gesticulate with my left hand the most too. I play a little bit of guitar, and although I never tried it, I’ve Got A Feeling I’d be better at it if I played left-handed. When I think about myself playing, I usually imagine playing lefty. And yet, I’m definitely not ambidextrous. Maybe I’m just weird…hahaha

I was teaching my friend some guitar and she is left handed and we were using a right handed guitar. We tried playing upside down but it was easier for them to play the guitar right handed.
I was wondering, how hard is it to play upside down with your dominant hand vs right side up with your non-domanent
hand like how Paul had an easier time playing upside down.

While cataloging this book for my library, I thought of this thread.
On the Other Hand: Left Hand, Right Brain, Mental Disorder, and History
Any new thoughts on the topic or new lefties on here since we last discussed this topic?

Interesting thread!
I’m naturally left handed, but was “encouraged” to write with my right hand at school. My mam went up to the school to question why they were making me do this and was told that “it is a right handed world” and that it would be better for me to learn to be right handed!!
It didn’t really work. I DO write with my right hand but almost everything else I do left handed. I do all of the following things left handed:
– reach out and grab or pick things up
– hold drinks and eat etc
– play pool
– bowl (ten pin bowling)
– play guitar. Not that I actually can play, but this is the way I would hold a guitar. My (left handed) little boy has decided he wants to learn the guitar and we are going to learn together!
– shoot a bow and arrow. Discovered this on a team building exercise with work! I was useless to the point of being dangerous trying to do it right handed.
– I’m left footed
– type. I’ve just realised as I’m typing this that most of the typing I do is with my left hand.
– there’s probably more that I can’t think of!
I struggle terribly with tin openers. I really can’t use them and my husband normally ends up having to do it. I have some cups that are in different shapes (one is like an owl and the other is like a reindeer head) and they’re almost impossible to drink out if you hold them with your left hand (which I do). Kettles often have the water guage on the “wrong” side for me, so it can be read if you’re holding the kettle with your right hand, but not your left.
It’s interesting about how creativity is linked to left handedness. I am extremely creative. I actually run a sewing and embroidery business so my whole job is linked to my creativity!

I am also left-handed (or a ciotóg as we call ’em in Irish). Left-handedness seems to run on my mother’s side, my maternal grandfather is also a ciotóg whereas my dad and one of my brothers is right-handed.
I was the only ciotóg in my primary school class (about 20 girls). Fortunately the days are gone where the nuns would beat the living daylights out of you if you were left-handed (like my granddad who used to write with his left, when he was a young lad but was forced to change in primary school. To this day, he still writes with his right but does everything else with his left. My mam who was in school in the ’60’s and ’70’s also met nuns and teachers who’d hit her for using her left hand but the ScruffJuniors are quite stubborn and she never changed to be right-handed).
I never really found it that much trouble being left-handed, I’m relatively ambidextrous and can use scissors etc. with my right hand. The only thing I find I can’t do is light a match, I end up burning my left hand (whatever way I hold it, the flame always seems to eat up quicker through the match when it’s in my left hand, I don’t know why).
I also used to use my relatively poor handwriting* (my handwriting isn’t bad per se it just looks very unique. I might do up something tomorrow and let ye have a look), was part of my left-handedness (seeing as I was the only left-hander in the class). However, when I was 8, our teacher was also left-handed and she had lovely handwriting, so my theory fell to bits.
*Fun fact: The only time I didn’t score ‘fair’ (i.e. terrible) in handwriting was in my very first year of primary school from the age of 4.5-5.5. Every single other year from 5.5 to 12.5 I got ‘fair’ in handwriting. My teacher didn’t even bother making me enter the county handwriting competition and I was allowed to not do art and instead read once I got to the age of 9. I just hated doing it because I knew I’d put no effort into it because everyone would just laugh at whatever I’d produce anyways (that sounds quite sad, I swear it isn’t, I know I’m rubbish at art).
And another fun fact, the Irish for left-handed ‘ciotóg’ also lends itself to the Irish for clumsy ‘ciotach’…charming isn’t it? The same applies for French, left and awkward are both ‘gauche’, and the same for German, left is ‘links’, clumsy ‘linkisch’. English would never betray me like that though

I’m left handed too (like Paul !)
I’ve never understood why it’s seen as a ‘bad thing’ to be left handed. I find that attitude quite funny to be honest. I must admit it does drive me mad when I’m writing something, and my hand ends up covered in ink because I’ve smudged my writing. I remember doing my History GCSE exam in the early 2000’s and having to stop for a while because I got cramp in my hand. Talk about awkward .
The scissors thing,I can only use left handed scissors. If I use the others,it just doesn’t cut AT ALL! Everyone else in our house was right handed, and I got frustrated trying to explain to them why I couldn’t cut things
