A Shock to many people is that Pete Best Still has A Career. I Don’t know anyone who owns anything by Petey. Do You like/or Dislike it. Or Do you just not care about it at all.
I Think that Rolling Stone should do a cover story of The Rolling Stones covering "Like a Rolling Stone" or if a Type of Beetle was named after The Beatles.

I care. I’ve read that some people said that he was a much better drummer than Ringo; I don’t know, but I’ve always felt that John, Paul and George betrayed him, stabbed him in the back. I would love to hear some of his stuff. Do you know if it is available online, @The John?

Irony of ironies, the label that first signed The Pete Best Four was… Decca!

I guess they hoped they’d make up for what they missed out on.
That video is proof he was nowhere near as good as Ringo.

The reason he didn’t become a superstar was that he copied beatles style a lot. That’s the same thing almost every band in 60s did and 90% of them failed. I once listened to Im gonna knock on your door, it wasn’t amazing or anything good, sounded like beatles style being ripped off. But i feel bad that he was depressed on beatles’ success and once thought of suicide aah poor Pete

I have nothing to add to this topic but why is this in the Ringo section? Last I checked Pete wasn’t Ringo nor Ringo, Pete.

I’ve thought the same.

I feel the same way.
It’s cool that we have the songs/vids posted here for reference, but I won’t be referring to them much.
Pete definitely served a purpose. I feel his drumming provided the appropriate amount of energy to the songs for the Hamburg days. At the same time, I’m very happy the baton was passed along to Ringo. Richie may not have been the best drummer in the world in the early days, but he improved along the way. As the vids above bear out, Pete did not get much better.

Oh, there’s no contest at all, even if Pete is Best Ringo is better and he is the Beatles drummer. But I can’t say all his albums are great, nor are all of John’s, Paul’s or George’s. And some of Pete’s are good, but in terms of music and band not of drumming. At least he understood one thing, just because your name is on the cover you don’t have to be the drummer and the lead singer. Ringo is a great drummer, not a great singer to my ears. He understood that with his All Starr Band but that’s also because being a live band he didn’t really had any other choices.

Thank you, @BeatPest, for adding “to my ears” to your statement. I am so glad you left it open so as to not offend anyone who enjoys Ringo’s voice. To my ears, Ringo has a wonderful voice. I would love to go to a concert where he did all the singing. I’m already liking you as a new forum member…after just two posts.

I’ve never had any interest in Pete’s musical output and going by the above videos I havent missed much; the songs are bland (sounding like rip-offs of ‘Our House’ (the CSN&Y song)) and the drumming neither imaginative or interesting.
I see that there are two drummers playing on ‘Gone’ like Ringo now does.

Hello everybody. I took the time to watch all the clips and listen to all the songs that @Ron Nasty and @BeatPest posted so kindly. Here you have my impressions –not different from those stated above me by other members…
Pete Best Four – I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door: A mediocre song, with a structure and sound too similar to that of the Beatles.
Pete Best Four – Why Did I Fall In Love with You: Slightly better, but nothing special. The same sound of thousands bands of the time. I wonder who composed these two songs.
Pete Best – Some Other Guy: I really liked this cover. I liked the voices.
The Pete Best Combo – Boys : It’s OK; I prefer The Beatles version, but maybe because I’m used to it. It’s not a great song anyways.
Pete Best – I’ve got a secret: Pretty sad, ain’t it?
The Pete Best Band – Hayman’s Green: Very nice song, who sings it? Who composed it? Nice drumming…
The Pete Best Band – Gone: Another nice song, who’s the composer? And why two drummers?
The Pete Best Band – Grey River: Same thing; a well-made song.
The Pete Best Band – Dream Me Home: Well-produced song, but a mediocre one.
The Pete Best Band – Step Outside: A forgettable song.
Nowadays Pete doesn’t seem to be interested in, or capable of, innovating in terms of song structure or sound –he just follows the sound that’s around. Not strange for a guy who stopped playing music for so many years and became a public servant if I’m not wrong. But then again he didn’t do anything special in the ’60s. I don’t have the knowledge to judge his drumming, but it seems OK and no more. I wonder if you can’t say the same about Ringo’s. But I’d like you guys to know that I’ve opened a new thread to talk about why Pete was kicked out, and if it was a fair decision, or an unfair but “necessary” one. It never sat well with me, emotionally or morally. Nothing against Ringo –nothing in his favor either, I’ve always considered him the stooge, the clown of the Beatles, the one that couldn’t compose nor was creative (many people will jump at my throat because of this, I know) I’d like an honest and objective exchange of ideas: you’re invited to participate.
