Yesterday I was talking with some fans about the piece of Beatles history we’d like to see in a museum so everyone could enjoy it.
One fan said she’d like “the” Hofner bass to be in a national museum (on a side note – and admittedly this has always confused me – I thought Paul had more than one Hofner bass? Someone with more knowledge can enlighten us, for sure).
I said I’d like to see “Images of a Woman,” the painting all four worked on while they were cooped up in a hotel in Tokyo. I’ve read that John, the one with the most formal art training, painted his section practically bas-relief style, with some brush strokes seeming almost an inch thick. I’d love to see that in real life.
What piece of Beatles memorabilia or history would you like to see made publicly accessible?

Great question, Parlance! I have been told by several musicians that Paul indeed has more than one Hofner bass. He more than likely uses at least two for his concerts…trading off so they’re tuned properly. As for Beatles memorabilia…the white Imagine piano (I think Yoko still has that); the psychedelic Rolls Royce (I think that was sold at auction to someone); one of the original “Beatles” suits they wore; Ringo’s drum kit (original); George’s sitar; John’s harmonica; and the first contract they signed with Brian Epstein.

I think the white Steinway is now owned by George Michael. I seem to remember it was among the many things John left at Tittenhurst when he moved to the US, it was later brought by a collector who loaned it to The Beatles Story museum in Liverpool for a while, before threatening to take it out of the country, as which time Michael bought it for £1-million+ to prevent it. I’ll see if I track down better details, or more detailed details! Somebody else here may know better than me.

I think I should be in the museum!
I could give oral accounts of Beatlemania in the the UK in the 60s, and having worked as an educator at all levels could also give awesome guided tours of the the museum as well as run workshops and the like.
I am also from a working class background so could share cups of tea with the janitor, which would be very pleasant.
As I am ‘between jobs’ at the moment this would be right up my alley.
When our illustrious young friend is a newly minted bigwig professor – maybe a new Beatles museum would be a suitable celebration and I can be given a great new green card to assist (do they still have green cards?) 🙂

Apple rooftop.
Abbey Road zebra crossing.
Studio No. 2.
Manchester Square stairwell (it’s already been moved once).
And just to keep the prime remaining artifacts in good condition, Paul, Ringo, George Martin and Pete Best.

Yeah, like some cities do. They put the real thing in a museum and put a replica in its place. So, now we have to have look-alike contests for the guys.

According to some things I’ve read, William Campbell won the Paul McCartney look-alike contest in early ’67. So, when it comes to Paul, we need a William Campbell look-alike contest!

I don’t know. Putting all your Beatles in one basket might not be a good idea. What if something happened to the building and they were all squashed all at the same time?
Are most of the Lennon-McCartney hand-written lyrics collected some place? I got to see John’s hand-written “Help !” in Dallas in August. They were part of a traveling Hard Rock Cafe exhibit. The lyrics are right under his picture. The lighting prohibited any good takes.

^^Nice. Thanks.
This conversation just reminded me of an opportunity I missed because I wasn’t a Beatles fan before just a few months ago. In 2008, I went to the British Library. They have a room that has lots of cool stuff on display. One of the displays had a set of headphone. Some woman had the headphones on and was singing TERRIBLY. I asked what she was singing, and my husband said that it was a song by the Beatles. At that time, I was unimpressed and didn’t even walk over to look in that showcase.

So glad you enjoyed.
The In My Life is fascinating for being so different to the final work, and that (though dumped) it has the first mention of Penny Lane . Also, clumsy as this early version is, it all fits the melody McCartney claims to have come up with later.
And with A Day In The Life , it’s interesting to see how John first said the witnesses to Tara Brown’s car crash “turned away”, then scrubbed it and suggested they “stood and stared”.

I’m glad they didn’t have a word processor back then. I like the hand-written lyrics.
I want the museum to acquire John Lennon ‘s tooth so that dentist can’t try to clone him.

They have to come to Edmonton to get it!
I would like to see that straw <——- at a museum!! LOL
But seriously, any hand-written lyrics, musical instruments, clothing, etc. would be awesome to see. I got to see John’s Rolls at a museum a few years back (previously posted) and that was a great honour for me. Rare and/or home photo’s would be awesome to see too. For me…anything authentic Beatles would be a thrill to see.

It would be fantastic if somehow they kept all the pieces from the Sgt. Pepper cover and set it all up for display. The stage set from the Cavern would also be nice to visit.
Don't you know? It's gonna be alright. (Shoo-bee-doo-wop)

No cloning! After all these years what is done is done, and a clone of John cannot be, and would not be, John. However, getting hold of the tooth is important. After all, didn’t John himself sing, All I want is my tooth, just give me my tooth!

You might want to take that up with the dentist who wants to clone him.
