I still don’t know where the webcam is mounted. There’s a bus stop outside the studio – it might be somewhere there, or on a lamp post. Next time I’m there I’ll look for it.

Oh yeah! That’s kind of hard to miss, isn’t it?
Westminster city council should really put a high-res camera on the monument in the middle of the road, and point it at the people crossing. If they sold prints like they do at rollercoasters in theme parks they’d make a ton of cash from tourists. I’ll take 1% for suggesting the idea.
Re-reading this thread reminded me that I took a load of pics that day that I never published. I had a hard drive crash recently but I think (hope) I backed them all up.

Yeah but then they’ll need to tunnel under the road so the normal traffic can flow again what with all the folks that’ll be wanting their hi-res pics 😉 I love the way they group and cross the road in quartets! I’ve never been to Abbey Road although I lived in London or thereabouts for more than 40 years. That particular zebra crossing does have some kind of ‘frissance’ to it. I think it should have National Monument status 🙂
Nice video/thread Joe. Looking forward to any more pics you have!

I’m all for the idea of a tunnel for the traffic so the zebra crossing is free to be what it should be Being a polite person, I found it hard to walk across the road for fear of disrupting drivers.

Meh, it’s alright as long as you keep walking. I was completely gobsmacked by how many people actually *pose* in the middle of the road, though. Some of them stand still for I don’t know how long. Not only is it a bother to the traffic, it also makes for a lousy photo because you can *see* they’re not walking. But hey, if that’s what they prefer… But like I said, I think people really should mind the traffic more.

The only way that is done in the UK is to list a building/location, which means lots of permissions to make any changes. The Abbey Road crossing was awarded a Grade II listing in 2010.
John Penrose, Minister for Tourism and Heritage, said: “This London zebra crossing is no castle or cathedral but, thanks to the Beatles and a 10-minute photo-shoot one August morning in 1969, it has just as strong a claim as any to be seen as part of our heritage.”
Roger Bowdler, head of designation at English Heritage, said: “This is obviously an unusual case and, although a modest structure, the crossing has international renown and continues to possess huge cultural pull – the temptation to recreate that iconic 1969 album cover remains as strong as ever.
“Together with the nearby Abbey Road studios, also listed at Grade II on our advice, they remain a Mecca for Beatles fans the world over.”
I wonder if ARC could have imagined when it was first painted on the road that one day it would be awarded protected status.
I spent quite a few minutes taking pictures of @Ahhh Girl crossing back and forth on her visit.

My hope is that all of us on this forum get to go into Abbey Road Studios one of these days, but until we all get there, we can take a pretty cool virtual tour.
Google Presents: Inside Abbey Road
I’ve started the tour. Very well done. Kudos to all involved in the project.

Wow…and ….shame on me too. I’ve been absent from this site for a long while, but I started this thread.
Since my original post I returned to Abbey Road the following year and it was much the same with a few variations. The biggest being the presence of one of the girls who sang on Across The Universe . She recalled how John was so supportive to her and stood next to her as she sang. Ken Scott was in the audience, but never spoke.
it really is a magical place and I feel so lucky. The U.K. is the home of The Beatles and I’ve been lucky enough to visit Mendips, Forthlin Road and Haymans Green along with all the other Liverpool sites plus I’ve been to the Dakota and Hollywood Bowl in the USA .
I guess I’m blessed with Beatle sites. Is there anything left? YES….. I’m so disappointed I couldn’t get to see John’s Rickenbacker guitar on display in the USA; Ringo has only ever toured here ONCE and I couldn’t make it; Paul plays the USA much more than the uk, so it kind of evens out….maybe…..
"If we feel our heads starting to swell.....we just look at Ringo!"
