I’m giving my special occasion speech (i.e. toast, eulogy, tribute, etc.) about Abbey Road turning 50. Wish me luck with making this accessible to a bunch of college kids who probably listen to god only knows what
So far, I’ve used the phrases “Come Together ” and “that magic feeling” in it, and I quote the closing couplet in the conclusion (making the point that AR is loved because it makes love, i.e. fond memories and happy times).

Anyway, it went well — I brought my vinyl copy of the album (I walked about with it in my bag all day like I was carrying the King’s crown, I was so nervy but it was fine) and put it on the projector while I speech’d. I got some nods and smiles of appreciation and a couple people said nice things like ‘ooh I love it!’ and ‘Yessss!’ and ‘Aw yeah!’ so I think I found the men and women of culture.
If you want to read it here‘s the written draft of it (I didn’t give it word for word, of course). I was very proud of it.

So for my Creative Writing class, I have to write a children’s book next and we had to pick two animals that the story will be centered around, so naturally, I chose a sheepdog and a ram in honor of Macca (because how could I resist?). I’m so excited to write and illustrate it (illustration’s not required but im gonna do it anyways for fun), it’s going to be absolutely adorable. Of course, the sheepdog’s name will be Martha and the ram’s name will be Monkberry and they’re going to live on a farm in Scotland. I don’t know what the central theme/message will be yet, but it’s gonna be fab.

I’ve just finished writing a sonnet in honor of my wizard-friend’s birthday and I feel unreasonably proud of the fact that I managed to slip the phrase ‘Who Can See It’ quite neatly into the closing couplet. (He put two George Harrison songs [‘Art of Dying’ and ‘Rising Sun’, very cheery choices both ] on his birthday playlist, so it seemed relevant. )

During my theatre class today we were writing original scripts, mostly to give us something to do while my teacher is away. Anyway, my partner and I were trying to come up with names for the people in the coffins in our scene (don’t ask ), and I had a Beatle-related idea (surprise, surprise). I was going to have a grave that said “Paul McCartney . 1942-1966. Miss him, miss him, miss him.” (Because Paul definitely died in 1966 ) I then said that I had an idea, but when asked by my partner about it, I explained my plan and then realized that no one in my class would understand the reference. Maybe my teacher would because her favorite song is the Beatles’ version of Twist And Shout and she is also a Beatles fan, but no one in my class would. I really want to include it in the script, but I probably won’t, seeing as I’ll be performing for a bunch of clueless teenagers.

An excerpt from my English final essay. “…despite what John Lennon sang in 1973, a million heads are not always better than one.” Beatles references are good additions to help stretch the essay to that 1500 word lower limit.

For French, I had to choose a picture of a celebrity and describe who they are and what they were wearing in 5 sentences so I chose and described a picture of George from the all-leather Hamburg days (this specific time in Beatles fashion also includes them all wearing wack cowboy boots and pink caps)

^There’s no oxford comma in French, so you don’t need one before ‘et’, no need for one before ‘avec’ either.
A list of when to use commas in French.
Tout d’abord would be a nice way to start it- first of all.
To say ‘leather’ you can say ‘en cuir’, e.g. Il porte un pantalon en cuir- if you want to impress.

@lovelyritametermaid you’re limiting yourself vocabulary-wise by choosing the most monochromatic Beatletime ever

I’m writing a final paper in my South Asian Music class about The Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and George Harrison ‘s role in the crisis as well as the way that Indian Classical rise in popularity in the U.S, and how the actual musical culture and truth of the genocide in Bangladesh was not fully represented.

Mais bien sûr !
Bordel is the best French word you can use for anything. It literally means ‘brothel’ but it can be used for ‘mess’ as well.
Ta chambre, c’est le bordel ! =Your bedroom is a mess!
If you’re at a party and it’s chaotic:
C’est le bordel= It’s mental!
Bordel de merde= HOLY F***ING S***!!!!!
It’s very underappreciated in the French swearing world for non-native speakers but it’s beautiful and ‘bordel de merde’ is something you can mutter under your breath, very efficiently. When I’m very angry, I swear in French. Very satisfying language.

Thank you for the info!
To be fair, though, I have never learned such before in any of my French classes– I don’t know why, though, I would have loved to learn about French comma usage way sooner
Tout d’abord would be a nice way to start it- first of all.
Oof, I forgot about that one

Again, thanks!

This is b/c I spent too much time trying to find a good colored full-body pic of a Beatle that wasn’t wearing just a suit and at one point I just became too lazy and chose this photo from my phone.
I may be limiting myself vocab-wise but it all came down to “am I willing to put more effort into this?” (the answer was no because I have to write a speech that I have to present to the entire drama club via Zoom at 4 )

I do not know why but punctuation is never taught!!! French is pretty straight forward with commas but German is a bit all over the place and my teacher would always mark me down for incorrect comma placement but how am I meant to know when I was never taught it in the first place?!?
It should be taught in year one when you’re doing all the basics, so you get it into your head but alas…no.
