One of the members of my favourite Dutch band named his son after Paul**. Their music is Beatles-inspired too (although they don’t mimic their music), they’re known for their close harmonies. They even did a Dutch version of Don’t Let Me Down and they mention the Beatles more than once in their songs.

**The guy’s band mate and best friend is called Paul too, so the kid is basically named after two Pauls.

It’s not exactly rock music, it’s mostly acoustic. But sure, a few examples can be provided. Many videos, so I’m putting them behind a spoiler so people’s computers won’t blow up…haha!

This is the Beatles cover, which was a joint effort with another Dutch band:

Some favourite songs:

Mentioning the Beatles:

(the song is about John)

I know none of these sound Beatle-ish, save perhaps for some of the harmonies. Over the course of 20+ years, these guys have sung an incredible amount of songs, and they have always said the Beatles were a big inspiration. In some of their songs, you can clearly hear it, though not the ones I linked. Who knows, maybe the Fab Four would make similar music if they were a band today. The left-handed guitarist, Thomas, is the one who named his son after Paul.

Thanks for sharing JF, these guys are great. apple01

I played Het Regent Zonnestralen (I’ll call the song Sunbeams) at full volume and drew the quizzical notice of my co-workers. It even has a fake ending (very Beatley) 🙂 I need to get that song in my car for drives to the country. My favorite though is Beatles en de Buren (I’ll call it Beatle Neighborhood). That song put me in mind of a pleasant dream of a perfect day around my home. The concert in the field is great also and shows off their musicianship. The third video says it is not available in the United States. The last 2 however opened up to playlists containing over 50 songs, so I’ll be enjoying Acda en De Munnik for many days to come!!

Wow, really? That’s great! The band went their separate ways last year – amicably, thank goodness – but they really were very good. They’re quite the pair of wordsmiths, and many of their songs can be compared to Paul’s style of storytelling. It’s a pity those who don’t understand Dutch won’t be able to fully grasp the cleverness of their lyrics, though I’d be happy to try and translate/explain some.

I hope this video of Schoolplein (School Yard) does work for you. It’s a somewhat autobiographical song about being bullied:

Why on earth would you want that?

Never mind; you could be a tribute act.

yup…definitely not my kind of thing… if i were a tribute thing i’d rather play and make the arrangements by myself anyways…just another waste of time and money by Korg…

@Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^< GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? This conversation is so far off topic I couldn’t find the thread! I thought I was going to have to resort to sending you a PM (embarrassing) but luckily Lillo revived it. Yes this video has USA clearance. Another good song, reminds me a little of the Austrailian group Crowded House. This type of music is so in my comfort zone (jangelly guitars, drums up front in the mix, piano fills, male harmonies) that I warm to it immediately. I know what you mean about missing out on the full experience when you don’t understand the lyrics. Having the videos helps somewhat (assuming the group had creative control) but I know it’s not the same. Thanks for offering to help with my understanding of the lyrics, if I get too lost I will take you up on that. I at least have  translating software for my work so I can jot down the basic song titles and phrases. Ok, next up is De Kapitein.

I know the Mirage in Las Vegas, their theme of the casino and main acts performed are based on the Beatles.

They have an awesome poster of them at the top of the resort, overlooking the strip.  For those who haven’t seen it, it’s pretty cool haha.

There’s a street I see every Wednesday on my way to my lit class called Harrison Avenue– I mentioned it elsewhere before– and even though I know it has naught to do with my favourite Beatle I still get a little high out of it. a-hard-days-night-george-9

Creamery Debuts ‘Sir Paul McAdamia’ In Advance Of McCartney’s Concert

Sir Paul McCartney will perform in front of a sold-out Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday, and the Creamery has done its part to add to the “Beatlemania” sweeping State College.

The Happy Valley staple debuted its newest flavor on Monday, “Sir Paul McAdamia.” The new flavor consists of the Creamery’s legendary chocolate ice cream mixed with whole macadamia nuts.

Ooooo! I wish I were writing in the “what are you eating right now” that I’m eating some of this ice cream!

A band called Ringo Deathstarr.

Their website.

Their bio section

1. I absolutely love/hate your band name. How did you come up with it?
We tried to go without a band name. Then, in the silence came forth a word. Ringodeathstarr. We decided to make it Two
words.

2. How did you meet each other?
Elliott met Daniel in Beaumont TX while still in high school. Alex and Elliott met at Factory People on South Congress in Austin.
Daniel moved to Austin in 2008 when the previous drummer, Dustin Gaudet, quit the band.

3. What are your influences?
British rock bands from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, American pop groups of the 60s, 70s, 80s, American rock bands of the 80’s 90’s, 00’s 10’s

Ringo Deathstarr began in Austin TX in 2005 as a project of Elliott Frazier. After trying to get Off The Ground for 2 years with a constantly rotating cast of members, Elliott met Alex Gehring and a year later, Daniel Coborn moved to Austin and joined. Since 2010 the band has released two full length albums, 3 EP’s, a compilation of old songs, and two 7”s. Because of this they have toured the world, performing in Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, Israel, South America, Mexico, The USA, and Canada. The new album has just been finished and will be out in a few months, along with more touring of the world.

There’s a Harrison community hall thing or something along those lines near enough to where I live and a ‘Lennon’s Pub’. McCartney isn’t a popular surname here but I know at least 20 McCarthy’s.

I ran across this restaurant today. It’s called Abbey Road Grill and they serve hamburgers named after the Fab Four and other Beatley things.

Made a mental note to try their George burger if I ever go in… a-hard-days-night-george-9

Here is such an obvious one that’s been missed, probably because it is so obvious – I only thought to see if it was in here thanks to @Beatlebug, and it isn’t.

The majority of The Beatles recording sessions took place at EMI Studios. In 1970, a year after they had released an album named after the street in which EMI Studios was located, the studio renamed itself Abbey Road Studios, and has often used a logo based on the zebra crossing.

The most Beatles related place renamed in their honour (I bet that, had they gone with any of the other titles they floated around, it would still be EMI Studios).
