Two students next to me were talking about great pianists in a free period today and at same point student A mentioned a pianist called ‘John Lyman’ or something of that like and student B understood John Lennon and was confused. Student A reacted with laughter to this confusion and claimed that ‘John Lennon was a bad pianist’ and ‘that one only has to listen to his song Let It Be and how crappy he plays the piano on this song to realise that’
Boy, was I angry. I told him that Let It Be was a Paul song, of course, and that no superfast and complicated piano runs in the world can move generations of listeners as much as the piano opener of Imagine , for instance, and I also recommended listening to John’s albums and the home demos first, before judging.
Maybe, it would have been all more effective if I had said it in an actual angry voice and not in a shy voice.

Last week in music we were told that we were going to be doing Come Together as a group performance and me and my mate were talking about The Beatles and he said it was a shame that there is only one living member and that John, George and “the drummer” are dead. I replied calmly saying that “the drummer” is Ringo and he is still alive. His response was “Oh, really? I tried so hard not to have a complete go at him.
I told another friend that I was going to see Paul McCartney and he replied “he’s a comedian isn’t he.”

Years ago while at college, there was a loudmouth in our class who basically both knew about, and had done everything. Anyway, one day, and I can’t remember why, the beatles were being discussed. Naturally curious, I asked LM what his favourite album was and the length of time he pondered with his answer, I thought, merited a finely thought out response. Imagine my disappointment when he slowly said “their greatest hits”……

That gave me second hand embarrassment. Did he mean ‘A Collection Of Beatles Oldies’? The 62-66 and 67-70 albums? 1? Past Masters ?

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I’ve never met a fake Beatles fan because everyone one I know is either someone waaaay older than me who absolutely digs them, or a complete, excuse the millennial language, hater. YOU GUYS ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE I CAN TALK TO.

Hm, I know I have encountered fake fans of the musical Dear Evan Hansen who say they “love it” when they’ve only listened to one song. *shakes head in disappointment*

Okay so I’m very new to this forum, not to the Beatles however and I feel I get frustrated when people only ever hear John Lennon ’s name and think imagine and say “imagine is his best song” or when people discuss the Beatles and only talk about let it be or Hey Jude . I think it frustrates me because while these songs are good they don’t really hold a candle to the masterpieces like Tomorrow Never Knows and A Day In The Life etc etc and so I would say that you can tell a fake fan when they’ve only ever heard of Let It Be and Hey Jude so I’ve come up with a way of weeding out the fake’s and just tell them what they think of your favourite Kinks song Hey Bulldog

‘Fans’ who have shallow knowledge of Beatles songs annoy me. I think of how much they’re missing out on.
Some people will go through their lives not comprehending the true magic and power of The Beatles.

Today I heard Paul described as “what’s-his-name McCartney.”

I usually find what people don’t say when I’m talking about The Beatles gives them away. They stay silent. Or I sense my interest/knowledge is just much greater than theirs, so they back off.

In history class recently, the teacher made a joke stating that the only other time the British has recently invaded America was The Beatles. As a Beatlemaniac, I was screaming (internally). One of my classmates raised their hand and stated “Oh, I love Paul, he was such a great drummer!”. I was too shocked to respond, but my nightmare became true when other people in the class started to agree with my classmate. Let’s just say, the anger on my face for the rest of the day was very noticeable.
