Yeah, so it wouldn’t be a case of ‘this person is a fake fan’ or ‘this person hasn’t heard this part of their career’, it’d be more like ‘this person has a different preference’.
Though I do know what VB was getting at. A fake fan experience I did have with a similar thing was that someone said ‘The Beatles didn’t get good until the 70s’. And no, he didn’t mean their solo work.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Maybe he was trying to say they were better off not existing at all?

I love the Beetles, especially Cole McPartney (he’s my favourite, number two would be John Lenin, number three Ring O’Starr and number four the bass player – what was his name again? Richard Keith?). My favourite songs are Imagine , Mother Mary, I Want You To Hold My Hand, Abbey Road and Live And Let Die in that order.
…said (hopefully) no one ever, I just camr up with it. The only trutzh is that the co-worker who shares my office has been singing the opening lines of Let It Be for the past few days and explaining that she’s learning “that song with Mother Mary” on Ukulele.
