To be fair if someone asked me this and my favorite beatles song was by George I might just say this out of spite.

Well it’s like an implicit exclusion of George’s contributions to the Beatles by only asking someone their favorite Lennon-McCartney song, and I would only really expect someone to ask that question unless they didn’t realize George (and Ringo) also wrote songs for the Beatles. So in short it is out of spite of the person asking the question.

Oh… that’s excellent
For a moment there I thought you meant out of spite for George, but I figured you wouldn’t do such a thing.

^^One of my bandmates thought it was ‘cootchie-cootchie-cootchie-coo’ (which has too many syllables, I know…) before we became bandmates
I sorted him out about 6 years ago on that one…
Why does everyone find it so hard??!?

But what if someone is asking you what your favourite Lennon-McCartney song is?
They could be asking which song out of the plenty of the songs that they wrote is your favourite.

No one: ‘What’s your favourite Lennon-McCartney song?
Me: ‘Well, I really love “Hey Bulldog ” and “Here, There And Everywhere “, but those were primarily written by Lennon alone and McCartney alone, respectively, so even though they’re credited to Lennon-McCartney I don’t think it’s fair to consider them such, so I guess I’ll have to go with “If I Fell “. Well, that one was a Lennon-driven song but I think it was a little more collaborative than the others I mentioned. Or maybe “Something “*. Hey, are you still listening?’
*see what I did there?

Ehhh, this actually sounds like someone who is informed on their music, at least enough to know that their most acclaimed releases came in the latter half of the 60s. Disliking some of their music wouldn’t make someone a fake fan.

I don’t know. I can easily see someone who is a fan of their later work not enjoying the earlier stuff, since it is not nearly as artful and mature as what came later. It’s still great, for me thanks to its energy and abundance of amazing melodies, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
