I think this is common around my generation 90s-00s kids i.e the ones who claim they are HUGE Beatles fans and they only know Hey Jude and Let It Be You know the ones I’m talking about. Well here are some examples of what I’ve heard people say in real life and on the internet
– Oh my God , I love The Beatles, Imagine is such a good song!
– Beatles movies? Oh you mean Across The Universe
– Pete Best is my favourite Beatle *coughhipstercough*
– Yesterday is my favourite song on Abbey Street (they meant Abbey Road and Yesterday on Abbey Road ….no just…no)
So has anybody else overheard/read any other statements by fake Beatles fans.
And I might be the only one here but if somebody posts a comment on Hey Jude /Yesterday /Let It Be saying “Oh my God , I love The Beatles BEST BAND EVER!!!” I don’t take them seriously, I’m just like hey comment that on Watching Rainbows and I ‘ll think of you as a Beatles fans but maybe that’s just me

You could ask a person who their favorite Beatle is and I guarantee they’ll say these exact words “uhhhh… Mick Jagger”

OK, normally I don’t do this but you’ve both made “there/their/they’re” errors! That should be “…oh yeah, they’re my favourite band” and “…who their favourite Beatle is”. Sorry, usually I ignore that sort of thing but seeing them in two consecutive posts amused me enough to call attention to ’em!
Anyways, how about “The Beatles are great! I wonder when their next tour is?”
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I always do this with people who “like” The Rolling Stones on Facebook, “name all the members of The Stones?” “….uh Mick Jagger….and…uh….emmm…I don’t know” Exactly

Von Bontee I don’t know what your talking about, its not like I just edited because you said that. (as you can see lying is easy to see on the internet. So don’t try it!)
But anyway, I’ve seen FBFs everywhere, it annoys me so much, mainly because I can’t ask those random strangers Beatles trivia.

There is a difference between loving a band, and being hardcore obsessed with them. I know people who love the music of The Beatles, but can’t tell who’s singing on what songs, or name all of their albums. Does that really mean they’re not fans? Why does it even matter if they get what album a song’s on wrong? They like the music, and that’s what makes someone a fan. Just because you’re one of the hardcore obsessed fans doesn’t mean you can look down upon other fans just because they’re not obsessed, and they don’t know everything about The Beatles. You don’t have to be obsessed to be a fan, a fan is someone who admires their work. You don’t even have to know who played what instrument, or even their names, because The Beatles are a band. It’s about the music. Also, the Yesterday / Hey Jude / Let It Be thing is just stupid. Those are three of my favorite Beatles songs, and every time I listen to those songs (Yesterday especially), it makes me think about how amazing they are, and it obviously does that for other people too.

It’s like I always say, there are different levels of being a fan. Myself, I consider myself a “huge” or “hardcore obsessed” fan because I own all their music, I know a s**t-ton about them, I listen to them everyday… I have them tattooed on my arm, and so on… but that doesn’t mean that you have to be that into them to be considered a fan, that’s just my choice. My spouse is a fan but he doesn’t love them like I do. He still listens to them with me and goes to see Paul in concert, etc.
I do know what you are getting at though, because if you claim to be a “huge” fan you should probably be able to back that up. But you can still be a “fan” and just like their music without being obsessed.
Just my opinion.

It just seems to me as if people default to it, like they would default to Stairway to Heaven or something. Each of the Beatles have a song with radio play (I hear Octopus Garden every once in a while) so you’d think they’d know more than two of them. It also depends on the era, because my older relatives like IWTHYH and Help , but I also really like Help so I can back them up on that..
I also have problems with the people say “Live And Let Die is my favorite Beatles song!” or some uneducated thing.

Some of them I would call fake, others I would say are less knowledgeable.
They only know songs like Yellow Submarine , I Want To Hold Your Hand , Hey Jude or any well know song
All of The Beatles are dead or don’t know which ones are dead.
They don’t there names, get them confused or turned around.
OMG I heard this like on Glee, or Across The Universe , or Justin Bieber or whatever.

I would cut some of them slack cause some places don’t play that much Beatles songs or as much as they use to. Like I remember growing up with a lot of Beatles songs. Now some of those same stations I only here a few and they are generally Hey Jude , Let It Be , Come Together and maybe a few others. On the same note, if you are going to say The Beatles are your favorite band or even your just a fan, know more than two songs. Thats just me though. I like some bands, but if I only know like two or three songs, I really don’t consider myself a fan more or less even proclaiming they are my favorite.

Yeah, agreed.
I’ve never had anyone tell me they were the biggest Beatles fan and they only know 2 or 3 songs, but if someone did, it would make me sad because they’re missing out on such a rich and diverse catalog. I’d probably offer to make a mix CD for them.

I’m the same with that. ‘The Doors’ for example, I really like their music, I have heard lots of it, but I can’t just name off songs or anything, and I wouldn’t call them a favorite.
Again, with my sister in law, she was over a while ago and proclaimed something like “I’ve heard every Beatles song!” and we’re like “Sorry honey, but no, you probably haven’t.” I don’t think she even owns one album. That’s the thing too, if you’re going to proclaim to be a big fan or call them a favorite, at least own some albums. That same day when she was leaving “Another Day ” was playing and I said “Hey, do you like this Beatles song?”
“Yeah”
“Just kidding, it’s Paul McCartney “. Slightly bitchy, but I couldn’t help it because of the comment she’d made.

Whats always bugged me is someone getting into a conversation with you, proclaims to be a beatles fan and then says that Imagine is their favourite song. Have had that a few times and each time i just turn off. And i agree with those who have said those who claim to be huge fans but then can name Penny Lane and Yellow Submarine before running out of songs.
As for naming all the albums or songs on LPs a lot of older people in the US might be more in tune still with the Capital LPs so might get songs mixed up, like I Want To Hold Your Hand being on Meet The Beatles or Its Only Love on Rubber Soul .

Seven of them.
But seriously, I agree. For example, I am a huge, obsessed fan and I can’t go a day without listening to their music. I know a lot about them and there are only a few songs I haven’t heard. My sister is a huge fan, too, but she’s not as obsessed as me. My friend is a fan, too, but she only knows some of their later songs, and she likes Help ! (the album). She can name all four Beatles (even George! ).

Calling The Beatles a boy band. Then saying they are more a Beatles fan cause they accept that were a boy band. Or The Beatles are boys in a band, so boyband. *face palm* So, you mean tell me Metallica is a boy band? “No” Well going by your standards they are. It has been discussed before that terms “pop” and “rock” music has changed over the years.
Saying John Lennon is my favorite Beatle. Why? Because of Imagine . Do you know any other songs? No *hits head on table*.
No, seriously I had conversations like those and its any wonder I didn’t explode. In the end, I got most of them to listen to more Beatles/John Lennon .

Oh god, I can’t stand those type of people. This reminds me of a time when I saw a girl I knew wearing a top with Abbey Road on it. I said to her that I didn’t know that she liked The Beatles and she was like ”yeah, I’m a HUGE fan”. A few weeks later, when I saw her again, I happened to be wearing a top that says ‘John, Paul, George, Ringo’ on it and she said to me ”Ringo? Is that what the other one is called?”
Do you realise how stupid you’ve just made yourself look?

Autumn, I like you and I enjoy your posts, and I don’t doubt that you’re a fan in the slightest but I don’t know how there are songs that you still haven’t listened to. I couldn’t bear knowing that there’s a Beatles song (that’s been released) that I haven’t listened to yet. Unfortunately, I am one of those selfish fans who is dying for more.
