Yay, my first thread!
Let’s talk about “That” person. Everyone knows one. That one person who knows next to NOTHING about The Beatles, but pretends they know everything because they played The Beatles: Rockband at a party and bought “1” in 2000. Y’know, the kind that say stuff like:
“Yoko broke up the Beatles!”
“My favorite song is “Blackbird Singing In The Dead Of Night!”
“Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is about LSD!”
“Koo Koo Ka Chew LOL”
etc.
So what are some embarrassing stories you have of dealing with these people? I’ll start:
My father, despite introducing me to the band. Still swore that it was RINGO that sings Lady Madonna ! However, if you think that’s bad, he ALSO tried to say that Hey Jude WAS WRITTEN FOR JULIAN AFTER JOHN’S DEATH! Oi, it makes me cringe just how much people THINK they know!
Now, lets hear some others!

Right, because John totally died before the Beatles were broken up! That’s pretty terrible…
Now, lets hear some others!
It drives me crazy when people call Good Morning Good Morning “Good Morning.”

I KNOW RIGHT?!
Another one is misheard lyrics that it seems like only you can correct. Like “I buried Paul” or “Smoke pot, Smoke pot, everybody smoke pot” – Like, do they even have ears?

I don’t get annoyed when people have misinformation about the group. I take it as an opportunity to give them the correct information and talk about The Beatles (which I love doing a bit too much haha).
What annoys me a lot more than “casual fans” saying something incorrect is “hardcore fans” acting like they’re in some way better because they’re bigger fans of whatever it is and the implication that anybody who knows less is not worthy of fan status.

Maybe with the PID lyrics but I have a tendency to mishear lyrics sometimes too. For instance, I thought George was singing “with your long brown hair and your eyes of blue” instead of “with your long blond hair and your eyes of blue” in It’s All Too Much for a very long time. And of course there’s the always popular “living is easy with nice clothes” and “the girl with colitis goes by.”

I hope, then, that you understand the thread is all in fun (As well as a way to vent frustration at some of the more meanspirited inaccuracies that get tossed around.)

I agree with what @Little Piggy Dragonguy said, but one thing that did annoy me is when some guy who was acting as if he was the expert on all music said to me “The Beatles sucked in the 60s, but the albums they did in the 70s were okay”… and no, he wasn’t talking about their solo careers

Yes, that’s what’s annoying. People who pretend to know stuff even when they don’t and say ridiculous things like “Oh, the Beatles, they’re my favorite band, I especially love Imagine ” and then it’s like “Clearly, you are lying.” I have no problem with people not knowing things, it’s when they pretend they do that annoys me.

Haha! maybe he was talking about Let It Be ? 🙂
Also, yes: That thread captures what I was going for, but I didn’t want to bump an old thread too quickly after I just got here! Hopefully this can still suffice as a continuation. ^^:

I don’t think he was, since I don’t think he would have been able to name one Beatles album if pressed, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Couldn’t have been if he said “albums.”
Well even then, Let it Be was recorded in 1969, not 70! So he’d still be wrong.

People think this? I thought casual fans didn’t know Blackbird was a song.
“Oh, my favorite Beatles song is Imagine .” – now that is one I hear.
Also: Give Peace A Chance . Even sometimes referenced on news broadcasts, such as: “The people were singing the Beatles’ Give Peace A Chance .”
And in the end

Well to be fair it is credited as Lennon-McCartney so that could be kind of confusing…

George would then answer “I don’t know. Who is anybody but everything they are and have ever been? “George” is merely a body or a vessel I inhabit in this life, really. I’m sure I’ve been so much more, yknow. I definately will be after this life and the next.”
And then their minds are blown.
