We’re not going to move the less appreciative posts and discussions in here about Yoko as they are too tangled and we dont want to move posts if its not that neccessary but can folk stop with the digs towards her here. If you do want to post your dislike of her music, art etc or question anything please take 30 seconds to move to the other Yoko thread before you begin typing. It would be much appreciated.

“These days, the society prefers single people. The encouragements are to divorce or separate or be single or gay… whatever. Corporations want singles– they work harder if they don’t have family ties. They don’t have to worry about being home in the evenings or on the weekends. There’s not much room for emotions about family or personal relationships.” Yoko Ono in an interview for Play Boy, 1980.
Guys, I have to confess I didn’t like her much… Then I read what she said in that interview. Spot on. Now I love the gal!

Great! You should read more of what she says. She’s very insightful.

*Blows dust off thread* Ah, yes! This looks like the right place for this…
On the day before her 83rd birthday (so, 17 February), Yoko will be at the O2 Academy in Brixton, London to receive the “Lifetime Inspiration Award” at the 2016 NME Awards with Austin, Texas.
Mark Williams, NME’s editor-in-chief, said her:
…influence on modern culture is undeniable. As an icon and a rebel, her revolutionary ideas and concepts have subverted cultural norms and boundaries, and she shows no sign of slowing down even as she turns 83. Yoko is a truly amazing inspiration who we’re honoured to welcome to the NME Awards with Austin, Texas this year.
NME reflect on her cultural significance here.

In the mid-80s I heard Yoko was coming to San Francisco for a concert. I asked my friends if they wanted to go and the main reaction was “Are you daft?” I was truly afraid that no one was going to go. I felt like I would be letting John down if I didn’t at least make an effort, so I went by myself. Happily I was wrong and there were plenty of other people there. I remember it as being quite a mix of aging hippies, punks, new wavers, gay couples and some families. I was adopted by a nice group of folks sitting next to me. They were more into Yoko’s music than into Johns, which was a first for me. They were also into certain intoxicants which sadly make my memory of the concert somewhat unreliable. The main thing I remember is that Yoko seemed very fragile, not like a dragon lady at all. She talked about peace a lot and led the crowd in a sing-a-long of Give Peace A Chance . I recall there being a white grand piano on stage but I don’t think anyone played it (so it probably was there as a symbol of John). That’s about all I can say about the concert. My new family took me home with them and let me sleep on their coach. The next morning driving home I felt more in harmony with my memory of John than I had since he was killed. I truly believe Yoko had no other motivation than that and I’ll forever appreciate her for it.

Ahhh thanks, everyone, and didn’t anybody notice I just recycled it from my Johnny’s Birthday drawing?
I’d have done a new one but I was out and about. I might do one now though.

Okay. I’m open to a view change. Can someone try to convince me that Yoko Ono isn’t a bad person.
From what I understand.
- Most who knew her found her obnoxious and disrespectful.
- She seemed very controlling and tried to use John’s fame to inject herself into as much of the limelight as possible.
- She robbed Julian fat.

derek_francis This thread is strictly (as much as possible) for the appreciation of Yoko. There are plenty of other threads that discuss and debate the negative view of her, and whether it is deserved.
The creation of this thread was to give those who don’t have the wholly negative of her that many do a thread where they were not constantly having to defend her.
I would ask that those who want to discuss whether she is for good or ill to stick to the threads that discuss that.

I’m not here to debate. I just want to hear the opposite side. Whatever your opinions are, I won’t contest them. I’ve heard plenty of negatives. I know Yoko has fans. I just want to expand my view and see if there is anything that I’m missing.
What are the positive aspects of Yoko that often go unnoticed?

I am perfectly willing to discuss Yoko’s positives and negatives in this thread, @Derek_Francis. However, the thread you’re asking the question in is the wrong thread. While you may be willing to listen without negative response, that would not prevent others from reacting negatively. Yoko is a very divisive figure. This thread is not for discussions that could become divisive. Yoko is up for debate, just not in this thread.
