I just don’t understand the Yoko-bashers… do they think she broke up the Beatles, or something? 😉
Seriously, though, I don’t hate her: never have, and can’t understand why others do.

From what I understand, the general idea is that she was a no-talent gold digger who never loved John, and manipulated him into spending all his time with her so that she could steal him from The Beatles, and then steal the limelight of his fame by making him put out her own records where she “tries” to sing but sounds like a screaming banshee instead, because that is what the aliens from her planet sound like when they try to sing. Also, she was not white, blonde, and subservient.

I get why people might have thought Yoko was the cause of the break-up for say 20 years, and thats being generous, but the 25 years after? Seriously? Regardless of all the other crap they might throw at her that is just plain moronic.
As for going on youtube and writing repulsive comments in any video they come across they really need to evaluate their lives.

Exactly! She was just trying to be different from the rest of the pack, so what if she clung onto John every singe time it’s just a sign of love that’s all.

I have no issues with everything you have said except the last sentence.
I can understand why people might think the rest is true or is rubbish; but Yoko fans sometimes try to accuse non-fans of being racist to try and belittle arguments which might carry more weight otherwise.
I can suspect she was manipulative (many people in relationships, especially with the rich and famous, are); it doesn’t mean I am critical of her race, hair colour or level of (non) subservience. If we can break that link we can discuss her role in less frenzied tones.

So apart from the racism and sexism, I nailed it. But then (and I’m not accusing anyone here of this) no one in today’s world wants to admit they are sexist or racist, do they?
Let’s not discuss this in the appreciation thread–just trying to give Faul an idea of what the arguments are.

From the article:
“Love it or hate it, Ono’s art is a two-way mirror, throwing your own reaction back at you.”
This is something I think the Yoko critics don’t get, and it’s something I’ve tried to express before. When they react against her shrieking or whatever, they think they are just being exposed to bad music and pointing out that she lacks talent. But the joke is really on them.
Personally, when I listen to her music, I feel lots of emotions–sorrow, anger, fear, annoyance, humor, joy, peace. She doesn’t have to say words or sing on key for me to feel these things. It’s not about technical prowess or musicianship, it’s about art.

I can see what you are suggesting, but disagreeing on what is and what isn’t art doesn’t mean the joke is on me; the same goes for liking or not liking some of it.
For the record, since this is the appreciation thread, I do enjoy some of her artistic concepts and some of her music.
I’m about to listen to Sometime in New York City and really enjoy her work there.

Are you saying Linda was subservient?…….John sang to Paul, ‘Jump when your mother tell you anything’…….He obviously thought she wore the trousers in that relationship. Which when you think about it….trying to denigrate and put-down Paul’s marriage in this way means that John felt he was the dominant one in his marriage and that Yoko did his bidding and was therefore logically in comparison more subservient than Linda…….???
If he felt that I personally think he was kidding himself …….or being kidded.
I’m happy to agree with the rest of your tongue in cheek assessment as being spookily near the truth…..apart from the alien thing.
What I want to know is if Yoko has an appreciation thread for herself why hasn’t Heather Mills got one?

Because while Yoko Ono has been victimised simply for being in John’s life, and is all around a misunderstood person (depending on who you ask)
Heather Mills is…

I’ll give Yoko her due here……although I personally consider her ‘work’ somewhere between the avant garde and as George might say, the ‘Avent garde a clue’ ……….Heather Mills is an altogether nastier piece of work.
As this is the appreciation thread I will say of Yoko she captivated John, she sparked him and with Sean he seemed to be happy. I remember at the time being very excited myself about their relationship.
But with all respect to ET……George, Paul and Ringo saw a lot more of her and the two of them together than any of us have………And I don’t think they had particularly high opinions of her on any level…….Who am I to disagree?

I did not have Linda in mind. I was imagining that haters would compare Yoko (a strong Asian feminist) with Cynthia.
