okay you guys are getting me to appreciate her a lot more. she looks hot here.
This is the best picture of her I’ve ever seen. She looks like a proud Persian cat that occasionally purrs
Also, this thread is giving me lots of positive feelings. For quite a long time I used to have mixed emotions about her, but now it seems that I’ve finally got over that process. Yoko is a strong woman, and though I don’t appreciate her musical performance too much, I totally respect her.

yes, i agree. i’ve said some slightly bad things about her, but all in all she’s pretty gear.

(So i can’t believe it but the forum seemed to eat my post when I tried to post this the first time, so i’ll try again)
So one thing we can do is pool out knowledge to clarify some common misconceptions about Yoko, and there are two that I commonly see other than her singing or breaking the band up that I’d like to find out about:
– Did Yoko REALLY get John started on heroin?
– Did Yoko REALLY leave Julian out of John’s will?
As for the first one, my knowledge says no. John went to primal scream therapy WITH her to get rid of it, so why would she start him on it?
On Julian, we know about his feud with Yoko but I don’t think it’s that simple. We know John cared for Sean but he never disowned Julian. “He’s mine and he always will be.” he said. Further, Yoko mentions in the same interview that they went to a party to visit Julian and had fun. So what incentive would she have to just leave him in the cold?
I’d say it’s more likely that John never finished his full intended will. I don’t think He or Yoko would intentionally screw him over the way Julian and Cynthia thought. So what do we know about YOKO’S side of things?

Yep, we call it post-stealing. That means your post got whisked away and ended up in someone else’s reply box. It happens all the time and it’s quite annoying, but you get used to it.

Anyway, I was going to say that yes, Yoko has done some slightly bad things. So did John and George and the rest of them. They’re human. They’re still gear and admirable people.
And ‘Persian cat who occasionally purrs’ is the best thing in this thread. And this thread still needs a cool name.

Well you don’t have to post it when it shows up in your box, you can just delete it and proceed with your regularly scheduled forum-ing if you want. But to my knowledge it always shows up somewhere else. It’s like post relocation.
Also that’s so weird that it happened twice in a few minutes

Oh, right, sorry. I don’t really care if Yoko got John started on heroin– Bob Dylan got the Beatles started on pot, and nobody gets upset at him about it. And unless Yoko physically forced John to take heroin, that was his decision and we have to respect that.
As for the will, I don’t know, but I doubt Yoko would leave Julian out on purpose. That doesn’t seem like a very Yoko-ish thing to do.

See, what they do is they’ll say it was Yoko looking out for Sean and being selfish, and then to coroborate that they listen to what Julian says from an old interview durring the time of their falling out and paint him as a poor victim. I’d like to think there’s some bias there. It seems much more likely that something else happened. But what?

Yes, I’m rather pleased.
It doesn’t matter to me who did heroin first, Yoko or John. I do know two things:
1. They did the kind you snort, which is less addictive.
2. John got clean and thought that Yoko was clean as well, but she continued to snort heroin behind his back for a while.
I do think that Julian lies. He has said things in interviews that are just not true, such as that he only saw his father a handful of times after the divorce. Photographic evidence contradicts this claim. There are a lot of photos of Julian with John and Yoko.
Wills are often not updated, especially when a person dies unexpectedly.
When Elvis died, he wanted his fiancé Ginger Alden to be responsible for tours of Graceland. But since they weren’t married yet and she wasn’t in the will, she got nothing and Priscilla, his ex with whom he wanted nothing to do, ended up controlling the estate because their daughter wasn’t old enough to inherit anything.

Has yoko ever explained HER side of why Julian was not in it? I feel like correcting the established narrative will go a long way in helping her gain respect.

Not that I have seen. I do know that Fred Seaman stole John’s diaries, supposedly because he was planning to give them to Julian “according to John’s wishes,” and Yoko took legal action against him. But that was her property to do as she wished with.

It is often the case that high-end wills and their financial implications are dealt with across several documents and arrangements, of which the public will is really only a cover sheet for.
On 12 November 1979, John signed a Trust Agreement regarding provision for Julian, Sean and Kyoko, which saw Yoko and Eli Gerber appointed as Trustees.
John’s final will, which can be seen here, which was signed on the same day, references the Trust in its third section:
THIRD: I give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, wheresoever situate, to the Trustees under a Trust Agreement dated November 12, 1979, which I signed with my wife YOKO ONO, and ELI GARBER as Trustees, to be added to the trust property and held and distributed in accordance with the terms of that agreement and any amendments made pursuant to its terms before my death.
Contesting the Will or Trust Agreement is covered in the eighth section.
All three children from John and Yoko’s three marriages were provided for by the Trust Agreement, and the Trust Agreement is a central part of the Will, ergo Julian, Sean and Kyoko were all mentioned in John’s Will – just not by name.
So, the suggestion that Julian was left out of the Will or was treated differently to Sean is false, John didn’t even treat Kyoko differently.
I don’t think it would have been up to Yoko to explain why Julian wasn’t mentioned had it been true though. John’s will, John’s choices.

We don’t know from the documents we have access to, mr Nasty. The trustees might have gotten a few rules, etc. Adn we know that Sean Lennon gets money from the cashflow from copyrights of Beatles’ songs and Julian does not as far as he has told. The way Julian responded is, I would only humbly suggest, more reliable then secondary sources who have no access to the documents.

Julian did get his share of the copyrights, @RobGeurtsen. And sold it in 2007.
In April 2007, Julian sold a “significant share” of John’s writing royalties to Primary Wave Music Publishing for an undisclosed sum.
That Julian inherited a share of John’s royalties after his death is public record, and that he sold his share is also public record.
The reason Sean gets royalties is because he kept his share while Julian sold his.
As ExTex said, Julian isn’t a totally reliable witness.

@Ahhh Girl, we need a mod to give this appreciation thread a fancy name.
I guess we are no longer able to create polls?
Let’s everyone vote for their favorite name. These are the ones that have been suggested:
Grapefruit – The Yoko Ono Appreciation Thread
Acorn – The Yoko Ono Appreciation Thread
Remember Love – The Yoko Ono Appreciation Thread
Walking On Thin Ice – The Yoko Ono Appreciation Thread
My vote is for Grapefruit.
