Still remember sitting in a pub with a guy who claimed he was a massive fan; when I asked what his favourite song was he said ‘Imagine ‘, asked what else and he struggled to come up with anything. Eventually he asked “what’s that one on their greatest hits?”.
Yeah; generally with George folk either forget he exists or claim they don’t like him as he was weird and grumpy. Which is pretty cool as George wanted to be left alone to get on with his life yet he’d probably be irked at the same time.

I once saw a youtube comment crediting “Here Comes The Sun ” to Lennon. In the eyes of some people, George is lower than Ringo, because at least people know the name Ringo Starr .

Sinatra famously attributed ‘Something ‘ (“The greatest love song ever written.”) to Lennon/McCartney.

It’s difficult for me to answer this question only because I have a hard time not seeing all four through my Beatley glasses. If I had to pick the most disliked by the rest of the world, my guess would be John simply because he was the most polarizing. Most people either loved him or hated him while he was alive.
I doubt that’s true. I bet the majority of the people who knew about John Lennon couldn’t have cared less about him just like it is with any other famous person.
I guess I should have phrased that differently by saying anyone who had an opinion of him either loved him or hated him while he was alive. Either way, I was only speculating based on the information available to me.

She was talking about me, obviously, because I can not only see her love, but I can feel it in my bones.

You could be right about that. I know my mom and grandparents don’t like him and none of them are particularly big Beatles fans.

Yeah, I just wanted to say something similar. Ringo doesn’t get a lot of respect. A lot of people say ”he was just the drummer” etc., but at least they are aware of his existence. When I say ”George Harrison ”, you don’t want to know how many people stare at me all blank.
Both extremely underrated, especially George as he’s written one of the most loved and covered songs ever (Something ) and people don’t even know he wrote it!

That used to bother me until I realized that not everyone knows as much about the band and the individual members as most of us here do. Of all the people I know outside of this website, I can think of only four or five with whom I can have a meaningful Beatles conversation. That is why I spend so much time here.

4. George – Who?
Yip
Person: George — who?
Me: George HARRISON, of course
Person: Who? Oh, that Beatle guy. Oh, you’re a Beatles fan? Yeah, I love Imagine …
Me:
Is it weird that I’ve never heard anybody say that Imagine is their favorite Beatles song? It’s probably mainly because little people know who John Lennon is in my school (or any Beatle). Also, the reason people probably don’t listen to em is because it’s “granny s**t”, but I’m not here to bash anyone

I’ve heard all different things, but I have to say it’s George. As Linde stated above, people know who Ringo is even if it’s simply because they’re not supposed to (and he thus sticks out). People forget George, so unpopularity or rejection doesn’t always equate to hatred.
As for Imagine , it is always somehow clumped together with Beatles material and I cannot for the life of me understand why. If it’s coming from casual fans, there’s the bigger problem that they’re being taught wrong. That or most just aren’t conniosseurs who care.

I imagine it’s changed over time. For a while it was Paul, but I think it’s gotten to the point where people have started to appreciate him a lot more, and he’s now seen as an adorable grandpa-type. I think people have unconsciously become very attached to Paul and Ringo since they’ve been the most in the public eye over several generations.
John is polarising, but at the same time the reaction to his “appearance” during the 2012 London Olympics speaks for itself. He’s still ultimately seen as a genius and an icon.
Generally speaking I would say George. Before his death there wasn’t much information about him out there, and what was out there tended to paint him as being the grumpy. holier-than-thou, bitter Beatle who hated fans. The reaction to his death was also weird because he wasn’t quite as young as John, it wasn’t under shocking circumstances, he was the “quiet” Beatle, and it was before social media. I reckon there will be much more love for Paul and Ringo. George has always had his own passionate following, and ever since LitMW came out he’s had a phase of being the “cool” Beatle to like, but he’s still the most forgotten and many people still see him as being bitter (+overrated after recently becoming popular).

People on here clump solo work into the Beatles so it’s not surprising that others do it.

Granny s**t. *shakes head* I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone say that to me .
Anyone who says Paul is all “granny s**t”, play them “Helter Skelter “, or “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road” as Beatle examples for a start. There’s a bit of more recent stuff too, like his collab with Nirvana, “Cut Me Some Slack”. But I’ve heard him rock out lots in his solo career up to now so it’s not ALL “granny s**t”. *shrug*
Though, I can understand the assessment. The entirety of “Kisses On The Bottom ” for instance. But I love that quaint, cute little album and I don’t care. I got it that Valentine’s day from a Beatle friend and awww…. LOL!

That is quite true. We Harrifans are an out-of-the-way but dedicated group.
