@Paul B welcome to the forum! I cut my own hair in the mop-top style, so I flatter myself I know a thing or two about it. You’re quite right — people get it mixed up with the bowl cut, but it’s quite different — more complex and much less silly-looking. The trick is to cut it more or less the same length (3-4.5 inches depending on which Era of Beatle look you’re going for) all over the head, perhaps making the back and sides a little shorter than the top, but the transition is much smoother than a bowl cut. It might also help if you bring a photo of your favourite mop-top-wearing Beatle when you go to get your hair cut.

Welcome @Paul B ! There is definitely a big difference between a bowl cut and a moptop… Beatlebug’s right, a picture to show what you’re talking about is helpful. I’d get a moptop if I could, but it wouldn’t even come close to working with my hair.
Love one another.

When I was twelve, I grew out my hair and then cut it to resemble Ringo’s haircut in Help !. Back then, I was satisfied with the results, but now I reflect on it and realize it didn’t look good on me at all…

Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.
