a-hard-days-night-ringo-8Great to read Mike and Micky still out there on the road! I obviously won’t be able to see them because I live in the UK, but wish them the best of luck! paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

I finished my marathon two days ago (ahdn_george_05),  but also saw 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee and the 1997 TV special afterwards. 33RPM was especially fun to watch, I loved the 50s segment/medley, as well as the trippy psychedelic visuals from the other parts.  Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the far out complexity and avant-garde-ness of Listen To The Band at the end though? Most people in the YouTube comments were either complaining or didn’t get itahdn_paul_01:

The 1997 TV special wasn’t as good IMO, but I really liked the song Regional Girl. Probably the hardest rocking Monkees song ever:

Now I’ve finished watching the show, the specials and HEAD,  I’m gonna buy me a dog  find some Monkees documentaries to fill that gap in my life for the moment!

Thanks Sarge, I haven’t heard Regional Girl in a long long time. I will to listen to it loud from good speakers when I get home. These Videoranch videos might help you with your Monkees withdrawals beatlemaniacs_02_gif

If you guys a looking for a Monkees fix then I listen to a great Monkees podcast called Zilch! A Monkees Podcast.

It is made  by fans of the band and they have album reviews and talk Monkees news. They have even had Micky, Peter, and Mike on as guest but in separate episodes.

I highly recommend it if you are a fan of the Monkees.

Also I am jealous that you will get to see Micky and Mike live.

Thanks EP, I’m definitely going to check it out apple01. Yes, the winery is a great venue. Strangely enough I don’t have any fans among my friends and family, so I may be going alone derek-taylor_01_gif

It’s a decent podcast. My favourite episodes are the album reviews and the episodes with the actual band members.

I am the same. I went alone to see Micky and Peter when they toured Australia in 2016 and I still had a good time.

I’ve grown to adore the song All Of Your Toys. a-hard-days-night-paul-7 My favourite bit is the “Let all of your play things” part because it reminds me of watching the Charlie Chaplin films for some reason, which is nice.

How this originally never made it onto Headquarters or was released as a single is beyond me! How did Don Kirshner pass on this great song?ahdn_paul_01

Great song. I think Don Kirchner was out of the picture by this point but it was considered for Headquarters and I think it was also considered as a single but a publishing error prevented them from happening.

I also love that like the Headquarters album all four Monkees play on this song.

This had me scared for a second, but thankfully, it’s nothing serious:

The Monkees cancel tour dates as guitarist Michael Nesmith hospitalised after falling ill before concert

Get well soon, Mike! apple01heart

I heard about this last night.

It looks like the tour will go ahead when Mike is feeling better but I must admit that I was a little worried when I heard that he was ill.

Get well soon, Mike!

I’m bumping this thread to remind anyone who is interested that The Monkees released a Christmas album last month called Christmas Party.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8Yeh, I saw it came out, but I’m saving the listen for closer towards the time, alongside our lads’ chrimble recordings and The Beach Boys ‘ Christmas Album.

P.S. I know I already did it earlier this year, but I might do another Monkee Marathon of the episodes, the specials and HEAD soon, this time with the albums (including this new Christmas one) as well!

I have held off listening to it as well but I am thinking of making a little playlist of Christmas songs to play at Christmas time so I might have to get this one soon to add to the playlist.

That sounds like a good idea. Will you also watch Revolutions Per Monkee as well?

It’s not very enjoyable in my opinion but some of the songs are decent.

It was announced this morning that the Micky and Mike tour is coming to Australia in 2019. I was happy to just see Micky and Peter in 2016 but to see Micky and Mike will be amazing.

San Francisco is in the midst of hosting its annual Sketchfest event with lots of comedy shows all over the city. A couple of days ago Micky and Mike participated in a Q&A session. I couldn’t make it but I’m on the lookout for video a-hard-days-night-john-3

I love Head!  Sure, it rips off a bunch of ideas from Beatles films, but it also has a lot of other great stuff in it, and it’s a riot.  Off the top of my head, my favorite scene is where Peter happens upon Mike and Micky standing outside the studio set making wagers on whether the wailing bikini girl is going to jump off the roof of the building or not.

I giggled when I read the first sentence of this post, making me realize a little part of will always be 12 years old. This weekend I watched Head for the first time since Peter left us. Made me forget for a bit that Davy and Peter are gone.
