Now I can post What I had been listening:
Ray Charles:
When the song started I was like “Uh?” but as while I was listening to it I was blown away. What a way to take a song with such unique style and make it your own and at the same time, making you feel what the original writer intended.
Thanks for sharing Marcelo. I see that Ray Charles did other Beatles covers. I’m checking them.
You’re welcome
I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

I bet a lot of you don't like this one but I absolutly adore Michel Buble's rendition of “Can't Buy Me Love.” Normally I hate most covers of Beatles songs. Yet something about this cover makes me just love it. The jazzy feel of it is great now I know this is a crappy video, but it's the best one I could find:

On the subject of Motown, there's a Supremes album called A Bit Of Liverpool that's mainly Lennon-McCartney songs, with a few others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A….._Liverpool
Apparently the sound quality on the reissue is pretty bad, but I'm curious about it anyway. Some of it's on YouTube if anyone's interested.
I'd like to hear that someday – even if it sucks, that cover photograph is classic! At the time, The Supremes were the biggest-selling act in America next to the Beatles.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
It's quite patchy, and some of the songs have nothing to do with Liverpool. I'm sure you can find it without too much trouble

Has anyone ever listenend to Rufus Wainwright's cover of Across The Universe ? It sends shivers up my spine. I don't like it etter than the original but I definitely think it's almost as good.
That's nice. I've seen Rufus live a few times and he's performed ATU, but I've not heard that version before. I think there's a different recording of it by him on the I Am Sam soundtrack.

Ok, my first post outside of the introduction forum:
First of all, I tend to dislike covers in general unless I feel like they a) have something original to contribute to the song, otherwise why bother and b) retain the spirit of the original version. For example, I'm not typically a fan of covers that redo a classic as a punk rock song or things like that. These are the covers that I have heard that I like:
Blackbird , by Dionne Farris, Wild Seed, Wild Flower
Come Together , Joe Cocker, Across The Universe
I Want To Hold Your Hand , T.V. Carpio, Across The Universe
Let It Be , Carol Woods, Across The Universe
I have yet to find a cover of any Beatles song that I like better than the original version.
After reading this thread, I also thought the Rufus Wainwright version of Across The Universe was quite good.

Odd fact: A full three “Abbey Road ” tracks, I knew via covers before hearing the originals. “Come Together ” (Aerosmith), “Octopus' Garden” (Sesame Street!), and “Maxwell's Silver Hammer” (The Bells)

I was looking for The Bells doing Maxwell's Silver Hammer on YouTube, didn't find it but found this that was kind of interesting. The Beatles rehearsing the song:

Should be enough info to compile a chart of Top 10 Beatles' covers from the forum and get the media to print it!
Good PR for the site.
And finally…
I'd contribute
Blackbird (Crosby Stills and Nash)
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Elton John)
A Day In Th Life (Neil Young)
All three diffrent… and as good as… but not better, obviously.

Actually I wouldn't consider that a cover because Something is a Beatle song and Paul is a Beatle.. but yeah you've got a point there.
I love it. I just, just love it. I love how Paul starts in a very sweet way with the ukelele, and then bursting with the guitar to the second part.. and the “du-du-du-du-duuuu” at the end of the chorus.
When I say Paul singing this live I was in awe.. I mean I just stood there and listened to the song and I saw George's photos and enjoyed it a lot. It was a dream come true : I always wanted to watch George live singing this.. but I got the best next thing.

I absolutely love this version of “Golden Slumbers /Carry That Weight /The End .” It’s covered by Dream Theater. The quality is not that great, but it’s still ally cool. (Hopefully this link works … )
