This is just sooo pretty, I had to share. Jonathan Edwards of “Sunshine” fame spins a classic pop rock song into a tender acoustic ballad. I heard this on an online music service, before I saw who it was and what he was singing. I thought, what a pretty little tune, and then it hit me what song it was….Tears and WOW!

Yeah, I think I mentioned ‘Ticket To Ride ‘ in the ‘Bad, bizarre, or unconventional covers’ thread. Why couldn’t they do some nice ballad instead of those rock numbers? Their treatment totally ruins those good ol songs.
Sorry natureaker, I quite like the Carpenters but their Beatles covers leave something to be desired.

Too lazy to write a new post so here is an old one on why I hate the Carpenters.
Bland, unexciting, dull, unimaginably boring. I cannot stand Karen’s vocals either.
I cannot think of any other act I’ve ever heard that managed to take tracks such as ‘Please Mister Postman‘, ‘Help‘ or ‘Jambalaya’ and turn them into this gloopy pile of nothingness. Everything I have ever listened to of theirs (I had no choice but to listen to ‘Carpenters Gold’ a handful of years back) is a vacuum of anything that even resembles life and energy.
I mean what the hell did they do to turn ‘Help‘ into the below (in the spoiler) where its a shitty whimper that is the highest insult to the Beatles cover? Its not even a pale imitation; its just… … no words can describe how much I detest it. And its one of so many.
Its difficult to describe just how much their music pisses me off because of how unremarkable it is. And its that unremarkableness that riles me so much. Its twee cack at its most and worst.
In my fathers car we were allowed to change the radio statio if we asked and he wasn’t really listening to it; he never hogged it and was very good in letting us listen to what we wanted, whilst we knew we didnt have free reign to play about with it. The only time in my entire life where I broke that unwritten rule was when The Carpenters came on with that “every shing-a-ling-a-ling” garbage. I hate them.

My mom is a huge fan of the Carpenters, so I grew up hearing their music, but I’m not a big fan myself and that cover is really a no from me. Karen Carpenter has a wonderful voice though, she’s probably one of my most favourite female singers ever.

I’m not sure if The Carpenters have been mentioned for these two covers that I’ve found so far:
(Yes I’ve been getting into the Carpenters recently, if you can’t tell).
I’ve heard their cover of Ticket To Ride , but I’ve never heard their Help ! cover until now. I think the Ticket To Ride cover is pretty good, but Help ! just doesn’t fit their music style.

A cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps recorded by Regina Spektor for the soundtrack of the upcoming 3D animation Kubo and the Two Strings.
A very unusual Oriental-styled arrangement, I have a feeling George would approve…
Even for its obvious lack of a guitar…

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by Elton John is a good cover. It has a lot of different styles integrated into it and John is singing backing vocals.

This is pushing the boundaries, I know.
However, it was co-written by a Beatle, who appeared on the original recording – playing rhythm guitar as the fabled L’Angelo Misterioso.
And this recording is by Robben Ford, George’s Dark Horse /Tour ’74-era guitarist, and was included on his 2003 album Keep on Running as a tribute to George.
