The Rolling Stones in a Dublin hotel in September 1965 with brief versions of two Beatles songs (from Charlie Is My Darling):
Interesting to see them doing Eight Days A Week at around the time they were recording I’m Free, as that song would reuse Eight Days A Week ‘s “Hold me, love me, hold me, love me“, with just the slightest variation of reversing it to “Love me, hold me, love me, hold me“.
I’ve always wondered if Eight Days A Week influenced I’m Free…

Not sure how big a hit I’ve Just Seen A Face was in the UK, but I’m amazed they didn’t even know the words to the chorus! I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know this was a Beatles song until a couple years ago, but I knew the chorus lol.
Here’s one I came across recently. He’s had this excellent trio quartet (I think the keys are not only unnecessary but obtrusive) together for some time.

Okay, I mentioned Stars on 45 in another thread.
It started life as Dutch DJs doing a Beatles mix. Realising they couldn’t release that, they got Beatles impersonators in to recreate it. When they asked for permission, the condition given was that any Beatles song used would be in the title. In the wake of John’s death, this was a massive hit around the world. It was certainly a UK #1.
There are three versions of it – single, 12″, and album.

To make amends for actually liking stars on 45……..
Here’s one of my favourite………(justifiably so I reckon) covers…….
With a bit more help than John had……..she manages to raise and raise the vocal to an astounding and fitting conclusion. Phew!!

Thanks Ron Nasty. One question I have about that Stars on 45 mix cover — did they not use (sample) any real Beatles voices at all? Are all those voices non-Beatles singers trying to sound like John, Paul, etc.? The reason I ask is that once or twice, it does seem like they used recordings of the real deal as part of their montage…

@Pineapple Records No real Beatles vocals. It’s all impersonators. I think the guy they’ve got doing John does a fantastic job.
I have to admit a soft spot for it. Released in January 1981, as I was becoming a Beatle nut in the wake of John’s murder, it was my first exposure to many songs.
Having looked it up, I misremembered it being a UK #1, it only made #2. It was a US #1 though, and the 7″ version remains the longest title to reach #1 in the US.

The best Beatles cover song I’ve ever heard is I Saw Her Standing There by a group called The Red Beards From Texas. They come from Birmingham (UK), It’s done in the style of ZZ Top & it’s brilliant. They released it as a single in 1985 & I got a copy of it off e-bay a couple of years ago.

Thanks Ron Nasty. I agree, the John voice is very close to the original. When I first listened to that, I immediately thought they must have taken samples from actual Beatles records and wove them into a pastiche. I like it too — it’s infectious ear candy — though I probably wouldn’t listen to it more than twice.

As a rule I avoid Beatles covers religiously, but there are exceptions to every rule.
This is a big one (far and away my top favourite Beatles cover ever):
and here is another:
I can see why Paul said it was just how he wanted it to be sung.

I thought that wasn’t too bad. They played it straight rather than mess around too much with the arrangement.
It’s Noel singing, yes? I can’t really imagine Liam doing it too well.

Just seen yours, @Joe. Yeah, it’s Noel. Listening to the sound of it, I’d guess it’s from the Half the World Away session.
Anyway, came here to post this, the _______ * Sinéad O’Connor, in 2009 at a gig called Inspirations doing an unlikely Beatle John cover.

I like it.
