I haven’t been able to watch the full version and was so happy to. This should be played on TV with a documentary. Of course, it isn’t publicized or “professional” enough, but it’s such a momentous event in history. Imagine something so casual and yet moving; what the Beatles always manage to achieve. I love watching the little people down in the streets stop their daily lives to come together and listen to them. (I can picture a less reserved reaction in America.) It’s so symbolic and a great history lesson. The funniest parts are when they express themselves: John’s random yodeling, mess-up on lyrics, Ringo smoking in the middle of the concert, Paul’s dancing, George and John randomly turned around in second “Get Back ” (why?). This is coming from someone who’s been taught to perform with hands to their sides, and I would love to be able to experience this kind of ease.
Who wore their wife’s jacket better: John or George?
I was watching the rooftop today (50 years today and new Peter Jackson announcement – Tres exciting) and it got me thinking about a little bug bear I have about the jackets. Stick with me. Where has the story come from that they were wearing Mo and Yoko’s coats? The first reference I can find is Complete Recording Sessions.
I can’t help feeling this is a sweet story but wrong for a few reasons.
Firstly, John can be seen wearing that fur coat a lot during 68 and 69. In fact it looks like he even took the same coat to see the Beach Boys in Paris in December 67, accompanied by Cynthia. Same brown colouring, same short sleeves and lapels.
https://www.tapatalk.com/group…..tml#p15814
He’s wearing it during the mad day out, the Rock and Roll Circus and at Twickenham, among other occasions.
There are photos of Yoko in that coat too – I’m happy to concede they shared fur (properly air conditioned and cooled, of course).
I’m not even sure Ringo’s coat was Mo’s either. It does up left to right – like a man’s coat would, not right to left. it also looks like a pretty big fit, even on him.
Why would the two Fabs have come to work with no coat, in January, but their wives handily brought two each? Both wives are as warm as could be expected, sat against that chimney in their own lovely coats.

I’ve asked myself the question of why the Beatles wouldn’t have worn coats to work that day myself. Looks like we’re on the same wavelength there, @jimbo80. Welcome to the forum!!
If the Beatles had made an announcement that they were going to be playing on the rooftop during that lunch time, I wonder how many people would have turned out? Hummmm…..

Why on Earth does @jimbo80’s post count say negative one???
Anyway, I’ll be sure to watch the rooftop concert today.

To be fair, I’d have given me negative marks for my pedantry too.
Enjoy the rooftop, man! What a pleasure it is to watch. My favourite part is George and John giving an ashen faced Mal an earful for kowtowing to the bobbies by turning their amp off. the big man had already had a bashing from Ringo for nailing his kit down in the wrong place. What a laff!

While ago it said zero and now it says one, even though you’ve made two. I’m confused and I think the forum is too.
Poor old Mal!

I pointed out to Joe jimbo80’s -1 post count. I said that he might have to make a new post count location for those with a negative post count. I suggested it be called the basement of #3 Savile Row. LOL. Not a bad place to be. Joe has no idea how the negative post count happened. We will just have to welcome jimbo80 to the next levels a few posts early.

Just watched it (& forced the kidsister to sit through it too… ) Absolutely gold! I loved seeing all the posh 60s people milling about and reacting in various ways.
I also love the bit toward the end of Get Back no. 2 where John blows on his fingers to thaw them out.

It’s been probably 40 years since I saw that footage and I think it was only once (in theater) at that. Thanks for the post. I swear that several times the lyrics don’t sync up with the video, especially for Paul at 10:13 and 12:10, but that could be 50 years worth of deterioration.
Same thoughts on the coats jimbo. I always thought Ringo’s coat looked just like something a hip ’60s drummer would wear. And John was a good half-foot taller than Yoko, so no way that it fit him that well and belonged to her.

IIRC, John and Ringo wearing Yoko and Mo’s coats was first suggested in a “Mal Evans” article about the rooftop concert for The Beatles Book Monthly in 1969…

I like when George kneels down to make fun of John leaning into his “Pony” lyric sheet! Dunno how happy George was to be there but at least he tried to have fun with it.
Somewhere on the forum is an actual post from Kevin Harrington himself, John’s lyric handler, with his reminiscence of the day. I’ll see if I can find and link…
EDIT: Here it is (with its own additional link to follow)

I’d guess it was either the rooftop concert section of Let It Be , @TheWalrusWasBrian, or the whole film.
