Who wore their wife’s jacket better: John or George?
A toughie, that. I’d say Ringo.
Thanks for posting @The Hippie Chick! I’ve not watched it before and I’m so glad I have– it feels like some sort of rite of passage in being a Beatlemaniac
I love Paul’s and John’s shared *look* in Don’t Let Me Down .
Ooh yes she done me…

The picky hairsplitter in me has to point out that John and Yoko weren’t married yet.

Did John and Ringo not wear coats to 3 Savile Row that day? Why did they have to borrow coats?
Were they really so nervous that they forgot to take their coats upstairs with them? Surely someone could have fetched their coats. Gotta get past this bugging me. *pause* Someone on the SH forum questioned if the coat was really Yoko’s, she having a much smaller shoulder width than John. Maybe they had matching coats.
What did people think about the roof being made ready (flooring, rails, etc.) the day (?) before the concert? Do we have any interviews that mention it?

Some folk did go up on the 25th January to see if the rooftop was suitable and where would be best to position all the equipment, and no doubt would have done a few more times. Considering there was access to the roof and you could go up there any way I doubt much if anything major was needed to get it ready – just dont go too near the edge.
I do like the idea of them hiring a helicopter to take shots during the concert, that would have been so cool. Shame it didn’t happen.
This is interesting, from the beginning of the 29th January section of Doug Sulpy and Ray Schweighardt’s ‘Drugs, Divorce and a Slipping Image’:
At the start of the day, the plan is to go up on Apple’s rooftop the following day and perform a half dozen numbers. Surprisingly, Paul is no longer interested, and thinks the
idea is too far out. John and Ringo are enthusiastic about the idea, however, and George is willing enough to play…At the end of the day, spirits are high and even Paul seems to be looking forward to the “big event” that will occur the next day.
I wonder if this was Paul’s nerves kicking in again and the others pulling him through. Never read before that Paul had a moment of doubt, generally its that he was always eager to get up there and play.

I saw something on Tumblr about them being cold and accepted it as truth. Because as John Lennon said, never trust what you read on the Internet. I have no idea about anything else using legitimate information.

They knew they were going to be on the rooftop that day. It was January. London. Rain in the area. Wind blowing. They were smart enough to have worn coats.

All I can think of is that they honestly didn’t expect it to be that cold. When you perform your body does warm up quite a bit. Would the concert continue if the police hadn’t broken it up? That’s sort of rude in my opinion since they weren’t causing accidents or anything. There was just a bit of heavy traffic based on the video. It really could’ve gone worse.

And you better believe it too. I can’t imagine performing whilst stuck in one of those dank little underground cellars with too many people also down there dancing wildly (that heats you up even more!) to barn-storming rock-and-roll-music. Whew!
But we begin to drift off-topic…

It was more complaints about the noise than the traffic disruption. All the bankers and such complaining they couldnt hear themselves moan.

If you watch again, @KaleidoscopeMusic, you’ll see Mal switch off John and George’s amps just before on police instructions. You’ll see George turn his amp back on, and then check he’s getting sound before joining in fully with Get Back , with John following suit. They turn around because their instruments have gone dead, and their instruments have gone dead because Mal’s been told to turn off the amps by the police.
George’s guitar comes back in immediately. He was fretting the chord and must have strummed before turning the amp back on.
Those Fender Twin valve amps take a while to make sound when they’re first turned on, but they would have been warmed up enough by that part of the concert for it not to be an issue (even with the very cold weather).
John’s amp takes a while to return. It looks like Mal turns it back on – you can just see him reaching for the switch on the back when McCartney moves forward. I wonder if Mal got harsh words from the others when the show was over, for complying with the police order – I do hope not.

Wow, this is special.
This is my 5000th post, taking me to the rooftop. Coincidentally, on the 50th anniversary of the rooftop concert… Wow. Just wow…
I celebrated by listening to the take three of Get Back from the rooftop concert (the last song they did before being turned off). I actually enjoyed it as much as the released version, if not slightly more.
Thank you all for bearing through 5000 posts of mine, and I’m sure there’ll be many more posts to come!

Congratulations, @The Hole Got Fixed !(Me, I’d hate to be back on that roof in sub-sub-freezing January – gonna keep my place in Rishikesh another year or two, thanks! But you’ll love it there. See you when I’m back up, in 2020 or so…)
I’m listening to an incomplete recording of the concert right now.

New interview with Michael Lindsay-Hogg mainly about the rooftop. Has some interesting observations on it. I liked this comment on the suggestion to play on the roof:
The Beatles sort of pawed at the idea. If you gave them an idea, it was like throwing meat into a lion’s cage — they’d sniff and paw at it and throw it at each other, then that piece of meat came back in the end, but was different from what you put in the cage.
And he has this to say on a re-release of the film:
You’d have to ask Apple about that, but I’m pretty sure something will be happening for a variety of reasons I can’t go into at the moment. It’s kind of something we’ve all been talking about for quite a while and has gone through several iterations, but I think probably in the next 18 months, it will come out again in some form, or altered form, because people have weirdly been calling for it [to be re-released] for some time.
Something is definitely in the pipeline for the 50th Anniversary of the film. I will reveal more in the thread about if Let It Be will be re-released.
X-posted to the All These Friends and Lovers thread.

This performance is so cool. My favourite moment is John’s vocal flub during one of the Don’t Let My Down performances. Forgetting words and making up words was his thing. I’ve watched that part so many times. The way the others react (and John) is heartwarming.
