Thought this deserves a thread of its own instead of being buried in the news thread.
Billboard are reporting that the Beatles music is going to be made available to stream from Christmas Eve.
While Billboard has received conflicting reports on the timing of the Fab Four’s arrival to streaming platforms, there’s a strong indication that fans will be able to hear “Hey Jude ” on Thursday, Dec. 24. (Keep an eye out for whether Liverpool’s most famous sons unseat Justin Bieber’s streaming record.)
Chatter around a six month “exclusive” for a known streaming service reportedly began to trickle out of Apple Records in 2014, according to one source, but fizzled out. This past January, former Universal Music Group digital executive Rob Wells restarted discussions for the massive get, with papers reportedly having been signed in mid-September. It’s unknown which specific services have secured the deal, though sources strongly suggest that most, if not all, will have access to the band’s catalog of studio albums next week. (The Beatles are already available on Pandora because of how “non-demand” web radio is licensed.)
When asked, a Spotify representative said the company “would not comment on that.” Rhapsody also refused to comment. Apple, Tidal, Deezer and Slacker did not immediately return a request for comment.
The Beatles as an entity has been notoriously slow in adopting and adapting to new technology — it took the band six years to arrive on the iTunes Store, selling two million songs during its first week. The group took 25 years, since its breakup in 1970, to issue the comprehensive Anthology documentary. It didn’t get involved with video games untilThe Beatles: Rock Band was released in 2009. The Beatles music was released on CD in 1987, but the band didn’t remaster their work until 22 years later.
The group joins the streaming Revolution just as music consumption on such platforms has begun to officially overtake downloads in revenue generation for major labels. They’ve sold 178 million albums in the U.S., according to the RIAA.
It’s not as though the group needs the exposure. Since the arrival of Beatlemania, the band has maintained a constant presence around the world through members’ solo work — Paul McCartneyappeared on two Kanye West songs this year, “FourFiveSeconds” and “Only You” — reissues like the 2009 The Beatles in Mono box set and tributes from seemingly every musical artist in history (Kurt Cobain, perhaps most infamously), much of it fueled by a perpetual cycle of rediscovery of the group’s work by younger listeners.
If it is so will be another example of Apple finally moving into the 21st Century.

To be honest, I thought that Spotify already had Beatles music. Shows how little I care.To be honest, I thought Apple iTunes already had Beatles music???? Shows how little I know!!!!
iTunes does have the Beatles available to download, but streaming is different (unless you were talking about Apple Music).
Personally, I’m glad this is happening if it is, because this is the easiest and most effective way to recruit new fans. My hope is that this will generate the same response as the Beatles 1 album did back in 2000.
And if they do break Justin Bieber’s streaming record, it would be a great payback for the records that Justin Bieber has recently broken from the Beatles.

Well-said, @pokerman. Maybe the Beatles Bible will experience a bump in readership. We might get some new forumpudlians out of it…I hope so.

Any move that shows Apple have finally developed some common sense should be celebrated with lots of flag waving and drinking – for years they’ve been so far beyond intelligent business decisions in the modern world it was a joke. Its a no-lose move as, already said, it will lead to new fans discovering the music who otherwise wouldn’t as they won’t bother buying the albums or searching around youtube. Plus it will make Apple money and Apple love the money making.
Please note that I personally dont stream nor know anything about streaming.

The BBC are now reporting on The Beatles becoming available on streaming services from tomorrow.
According to them, 224 songs will be made available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal, Amazon Prime Music, Deezer, Microsoft Groove, Napster and Slacker Radio.

I wonder if the move to streaming sites will lead to the end of the exclusive deal with iTunes on where to download their music. Would make sense as folk who hear a certain track might want to purchase it but cant as they aren’t locked into Apple for whatever reason.

‘Tis now totally official. It’s on The Beatles site, it been tweeted, and Paul and Ringo’s twitter accounts (and I’d guess their sites, but haven’t looked yet).
The BBC got one of the services wrong. It seems Napster don’t have them, but Rhapsody does.
EDIT:
Streaming starts at 12:01am, 24 December, your local time…

It would seem only the canon is being made available, the 13 canon albums, plus Past Masters , 1, 1962-1966 (the Red) and 1967-1970 (the Blue).

I would guess the idea, since this may be the first time much of a younger generation who now only do streaming explore their music, so it seems an opportunity to guide them to the core catalogue before going, “Oh, yeah, here’s this other stuff we’ve released. It shouldn’t be considered the same as the recordings we released back in the ’60s, but we think there’s some great, great stuff among it.”
They want people to listen to Let It Be before they do Naked.

Neat vid! I mean, if ya gotta do a promo… I like the way the album covers segue into each other.
Not being a streaming person it means little to me personally (I likes me good old CDs) but ’tis good for more up-on-the-times members of my generation. Anything to spread the Beatlove!

I put up a Spotify playlist of the available recordings in what I hope is chronological order (playlist link, Spotify URI). It seems to match the Revolution in the Head ordering anyway. By necessity there are no Anthology, fan-club, BBC, non-EMI or bootleg recordings in there—except for the Tommy Sheridan recordings, which are available on other Spotified CDs. If another big chunk of them shows up on Spotify I may split this up into EMI-only and kitchen-sink playlists. The Martin Yellow Submarine arrangements are omitted. Stereo on the EMI tracks because that’s all there is.

Hello, @leoc! Welcome to the Beatles Bible Fab Forum. Glad you joined us. I hope you will learn a lot from this site and contribute your thoughts and knowledge about The Beatles in the various threads on the forum.
I wanted to let you know that your Spotify link doesn’t seem to be working. When I clicked on it, I got a “page not found” message.
