Why does it need to be a competition?
I was just about to come in and say the same thing. Lots of people have written about the Beatles. One can bring a viewpoint that another wouldn’t. One might cover subjects that another wouldn’t.

For the most part, both of these sites are correct. However, there are a fair share of absurd claims for both site. beatlesebooks claims that George played bass on Rock And Roll Music and that Paul played guitar on She’s A Woman , while The Beatles Bible claims that Paul played guitar in Oh! Darling and that John doesn’t play guitar on Paperback Writer .
What is the source that suggests that John played guitar on Paperback Writer ? I have read several sources that confirm the basic track was Paul and George on Guitar, Ringo on Drums, John on Tambourine with a bass overdub by Paul…

It is possible, however this picture leads me to believe otherwise:
As you can see, there’s Paul singing and playing his Casino, John playing his Gretsch which he only used for Revolver and it’s associated songs, George playing his Burns Bass, and Ringo playing the drums, so either Paul played lead guitar on She Said She Said or John played guitar on this song, this is backed by this site http://www.beatlesebooks.com/p…..ack-writer.

It’s general consensus that Paul doesn’t play on ‘She Said She Said ‘.
John brought it in pretty much finished, I think. I’m not sure but I think it was one of the only Beatle records I never played on. I think we’d had a barney or something and I said, ‘Oh, f**k you!’ and they said, ‘Well, we’ll do it.’ I think George played bass.

The photo is from the June 1966 edition of ‘The Beatles Book Monthly’ and is from a run-thru.
In ‘That Magic Feeling’ John C Winn writes for that recording
[Take 1 – 13th April 1966]
After the usual dinner break, the Beatles reconvened to work on Paul’s “Paperback Writer ,” which was destined to be the A-side of their next single. Undoubtedly a lot of rehearsal and discussion took place, for at the end of six and a half hours, they were able to perfect the backing track in two takes. The rhythm consisted of Paul and George on electric guitars, Ringo on drums, and John on tambourine. Ringo tapped his sticks to keep time during the breaks, which would later be filled with multiple vocal harmonies. The raw tape opens with Paul practicing the intro; as this section is in stereo, with the instruments spread across at least three tracks, it probably comes from the rehearsals, although it does have a “take one” announcement. This is followed by a loud crashing noise, and suddenly everything is on a single track. The first attempt makes it through one verse, but breaks down when George is late changing from a G to a C chord. He is then heard commenting that the others were speeding up, and Paul concurs, saying they are “pressing” too much. George Martin reminds them that the tape is still running, and they begin a second take, which goes off without a hitch. Although we have both takes on a continuous recording from the multi-tracks, take 2 as we hear it incorporates overdubs from the following day’s session, so it is examined below (entry 13A)—the timing for that entry begins where the rest bit of overdubbed sound is heard.
[Take 2 – 14th April 1966]
Thanks to tape operator Phil McDonald’s notes, we can reconstruct some of the work done this afternoon to complete “Paperback Writer .” With the rhythm on track 1, Paul overdubbed his main vocal on another track, and a second vocal with backing from John and George on a third track. To fill the remaining track (track 2), numerous overdubs were attempted and discarded, using all the new tricks and toys employed over the previous week. Paul played a bass part, with the signal limited, filtered, and compressed. George Martin tried playing piano through the Leslie speaker for one attempt, and “had a good time” on organ for another. A further idea was to overdub guitar in the gaps after the title phrase was sung. In the end, the only thing not crossed out in the notes is what was used: George and John added further vocals (including the infamous “Frère Jacques” phrase) while Paul played his bass part and George added some lead guitar fills here and there. At the end of the full take 2 as heard on bootleg (A), a couple of seconds of a rehearsal take (rhythm track only) can be heard—this was obviously something taped over by the “proper” takes. Simultaneous to that, as the final track 2 overdub ends, the tail of one of the earlier overdub attempts is audible, as the Leslied piano jangles on.
And ‘The Beatles Book Monthly’ writes about the 14th June session.

For She Said She Said , I question Paul’s comment, as he doesn’t mention why he had an argument and also that it wouldn’t make sense for George to play bass on the song. For Paperback Writer , the rhythm guitar part is way too simple for George (all that’s happening is the strumming of these 2 chords and letting them ring out(xxx033) (xxx013)).

Maybe because Paul doesn’t remember or want to go into it. But let’s throw out the most likely scenario so a website can be correct.
Anyway, the picture wasn’t taken during the ‘She Said, She Said’ session so it’s a pointless discussion anyway. Unless there is some strange conspiracy here. Are we back on ‘Paul is Dead’?

I’ve always wondered if the row went something like this:
John “So we’ve spent endless days working on and trying to perfect your granny s**t, George’s s**t and Ringo’s submarine s**t and I get just half a day to knock out a song”
Paul “Well we’re off on tour in a couple of days so we don’t have any more time. Don’t blame me blame Brian”.
John: “This is f***ing s**t. We spent f**k all time on my songs”
Paul: “I’m off if that’s how you feel about it.”
John: “George…fancy playing bass?”

Understood, here’s a compromise for She Said She Said :
She Said, She Said
John Lennon : Lead and Backing Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Organ
George Harrison : Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar?, Backing Vocals
Paul McCartney : Bass Guitar?
Ringo Starr : Drums, Shaker
As for Paperback Writer , I am going with beatlesebooks.

Possible, although I think there’s a possibility he played bass on it, mainly due to the vagueness and unsureness of his comment on the matter.

And writing his own drug songs and references! ‘Got To Get You Into My Life ‘ is Paul’s love of pot and it’s on the same album.
