So, I saw the concert stop from the tour in Providence on December 11. It was quite enjoyable, despite what some of the press had to say at the time. He had a lot of people with him, including Billy Preston, heard a lot familiar songs, including several Beatle tunes. It was great, as you can imagine. But you don’t need me to tell you this. So I’m just gonna talk about one moment in particular, because I remember it like it happened yesterday.
So, he’s singing “You’re asking me will my love grow,” then changes the next words to “I hope so.” The instant boost in the mood of the crowd was palpable. Large numbers then joined others already singing along, “You stick around now it may show.” Then the pause, it lasted for just one measure, and it felt like a dam was about to burst. Then the crowd, as one voice, sang/yelled the new change with all they had, an emotional build-up-and-release of unconstrained joy! Whew…
Many years later I came to learn that George and Olivia had met in person only weeks before.

Wow, that sounds incredible Billy Preston! He’d be worth seeing on his own, in my opinion – “Nothin’ From Nothin'” is another current fave, and he’s had a string of them for a couple of years now. Not to mention showing up regularly on Ringo and George’s albums…it’s almost like he’s a “5th Beatle” or something!
