Oh, yeah. The way the singer howls really rustles my jimmies… I think, judging by the way he and the guitarist go back and forth, it rustles Jimmy Page too but I digress…
The Beatles are still no. 1 for doing all different kinds of things over the years, but I feel like the music scene is changing and I’m excited to see how our lads ride the wave.

I do wish they would start playing concerts again. And not just from some London roof.

I wish I’d been in London for that. I heard about it on the radio, apparently they played several new songs. Maybe we’ll get an LP soon!
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Heh, at leaat you all live in England together!
A new Beatles album is always welcome (even a semi-album, like that Yellow Submarine soundtrack.) What do you think of “Get Back “/”Don’t Let Me Down ?”
(Incidentally, since I was speculating earlier about who was this “Billy Preston”…according to “Rolling Stone” magazine, he’s a Negro soul musician from Texas, and an old friend from our boys’ early years in Germany. He played piano on the single and during that rooftop concert, and now he’s got his name alongside the Beatles’ exalted own! Our boys doing what they can to show solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters, RIGHT ON! )

^ They probably just chose him because they liked his playing; from what little I’ve heard, it’s certainly groovealicious. Though I do wonder why they’re inviting outside musicians in? I don’t think they’ve ever done that before — I always got the impression that our four lads were very tight and not into outsiders. It’s a very curious thing…
Oh, about the rooftop concert — I happened to be in a different part of London that day so I had no idea it was going on. My cousin saw a bit of it, she said it was terrific to hear them playing from so high up.

Well I don’t know, I didn’t think that guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps last November sounded anything like George playing.. Maybe it was one of the guys from that new group, The Led Zeppelins, or something… Jimmy Page? Didn’t he used to be in the Yardbirds?

Yes, Jimmy Page was in the Yardbirds, according to RS. And he replaced Jeff Beck, who replaced Eric Clapton.
You really don’t think that’s George playing lead guitar? I realize it sounds dissimilar to any other Beatles guitar part, but it seems unlike the Beatles to rely on an outsider to play an instrument they’re capable of handling themselves (as opposed to a saxophone or violin, etc.)
Maybe it’s George, maybe someone else (Paul?), but whoever it is, I don’t think it sounds like (the gorgeous) Jimmy Page. (Did you know he uses a VIOLIN bow to make those unearthly sounds??)

I don’t know, that guitar lead reminds me distinctly of a Yardbirds number, ‘I Ain’t Got You’.

Hi everybody, we haven’t gotten together in awhile, everybody’s so busy becoming adults and doing adult things. Just thought I’d check in on my old friends, hope the brand-new decade is treating you all well, especially since we’ves got nearly a full ten years of it left!
Also, I wanted to share the exciting news (if you haven’t heard yet) that the next Beatles album is due next month, and it’s accompanied by a documentary movie about the making of it! Apparently it was recorded last year at the same time as “Get Back ” and “Don’t Let Me Down “, and will show them playing that rooftop concert they did last year, so that’s exciting! And the magical spell of “Abbey Road ” hasn’t worn off yet…two Beatles albums in less than a year, just like the old days (a lifetime ago)
Dunno bout you guys, but I’m ready for our beloved boys to conquer the 1970s just like they did the 1960s. The future looks bright!
Love you all, Give Peace A Chance

Feels a little odd having had another John single without the others involved plus Ringo’s album (which I haven’t heard due to the film and movie coming out) but more Beatles cannot be bad (together or apart).

After the absolute pinnacle of magnificence that was Abbey Road , I fail to imagine how they could top that. Of course, I said the same thing about Revolver (has it really been four years? Crikey, time flies), and then we got Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band…
I saw someone mentioned Led Zeppelin upthread. I’ve been absolutely OBSESSED with them since they released two (!) albums last year, and I also went to see them in January at the Royal Albert Hall, which was the fabbest night of my life! (It was also apparently the guitarist’s birthday! I screamed “HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY” at him after he did a long guitar solo piece, but I don’t think he heard. ) The point I’m trying to make, without derailing the thread too much, is that our boys have competition as we move into this groovy new decade… I’m sure they’ll rise to the occasion, though. I just hope that their independent projects aren’t distracting them too much from working together!
I wish. I SO f*****g wish. I have seen footage of the concert in question, it’s on YouTube, and it’s truly mind-blowing.

Ohmygosh Led Zeppelin are a*s*t*o*u*n*d*i*n*g in concert! My boyfriend and myself saw them at the Rockpile last August, and I swear I witnessed four gorgeous wizards performing alchemical spells, controlling the very heavens and crowd and molecules of air and time itself with their unearthly soundsssss (i confess that Terry and myself had split a tab of “Toronto Purple” acid before the show, and so our thoughts were all like etc…)

^Myself, I would’ve been a bit afraid to take anything chemical before the show. I was naturally high as Mr Kite as it was and I wanted to be sober enough to take in and remember every single detail of their astounding musicianship so I could try it later (I’ve dragged a couple of mates into playing with me, and we’ve been trying to play Zeppelin songs, but they’re REALLY HARD so we mostly stick to the Beatles’ old stuff for now as it’s easier and more popular…)

Glad you’re staying high on life and keeping your thoughts straight, Beatlebug; hallucinogens aren’t for everyone. (I usually stick to grass or hash, anyways…)
Keep practicing! I await the day you can make a record for us to hear. It’s a new era, a new decade, and the time is ripe for us ladies to pick up guitars and drumsticks and form our OWN bands, right on sisters!

I’ve been hooked on a whole lot of other cool music thanks to the guys who were at Woodstock and last year’s Isle of Wight, but Abbey Road is still an amazing album and tops any of that for me! Can’t wait for the next one, and there’s another movie coming too!?

I tried some grass once with my cousin and her boyfriend (I crash in their pad when I’m in the city fairly often; they were smoking it, they insisted I try it, and I finally gave in; I’d been smelling a lot of it and probably getting slightly high on the fumes before anyway), but I wasn’t crazy about how sleepy and slow it made me. I wanna be wide awake to experience life. We did listen to Rubber Soul in that altered state and that was interesting, but I don’t think I’d make a habit of it. Also, I’d get SO FAT — after the record we were suddenly ravenous and we ate and ate and ate and ate
I might possibly like to try LSD, just once, just for the experience. I’ve heard of people having bad trips, but as long as I stay physically safe (no driving ), I’m not afraid of any psychedelic demons. It’s all in your mind, as George said in Yellow Submarine , and my mind is fairly free of darkness, so I think it would be okay.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS ALL FICTION. I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER TOUCHED A SINGLE DRUG OR ALCOHOL AND HAVE NO PLANS TO. Well, unless you count the time I was seven and accidentally sampled some oatmeal porter, thinking it was root beer, and expelled the substance as fast as humanly possible because it was nasty, or the maryjane smoke I’ve breathed in at rock concerts and festivals — but that didn’t give me a high; it just gave me a scratchy throat and a distaste for potheads
Keep practicing! I await the day you can make a record for us to hear. It’s a new era, a new decade, and the time is ripe for us ladies to pick up guitars and drumsticks and form our OWN bands, right on sisters!
That’s the dream.
Admittedly all my bandmate are blokes; there’s a dearth of seriously musically-inclined females in my circle of acquaintance, alas… they’re good lads, though.
Anyone who likes the Beatles enough to put up with me bossing them around is a brick in my book
As a musician, I am absolutely dead keen to see the behind-the-scenes footage of the Fab Four themselves! There’s a special kinship when it comes to people who play music, I just know it’ll be the most relatable the Beatles have ever been. It’s gonna be SO GEAR

I… I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock. I can’t believe he would… I mean, I know they’re growing up and doing their own things but… I… I was afraid this would happen, actually, but I pushed it away and… I’m going to go sit down.
Do you think he’ll ever have a change of heart? Will the Get Back thingy still proceed as planned? What do the other three think about this? Oh, so many unpleasant uncertainties. I know there are more important things in life, but I feel this to my core and it does hurt.
I acted so well that I brainwashed myself into feeling genuine shock over that news item, and my stomach is still mildly upset now and my dad walked in and I turned to him and said “Have you heard the news? Paul quit the Beatles” and he just sorta played along like a good sport. It was so fun
