Also, Please Please Me is a single, not an album, their albums are Introducing The Beatles, Meet The Beatles, The Beatles Second Album, Something New, The Beatles Story, Beatles 65′, Beatles VI, Help !, Rubber Soul , Yesterday And Today, Revolver , and Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Please Please Me is one of the English albums, not the North American ones. The English ones are SO much better – more songs, and more attractive album cover art in many cases! They cost a little more, but (if Revolver and Rubber Soul are any indication) they’re well worth it. Only trouble is only the big record stores in big cities have them readily available in stock, otherwise you have to get them specially ordered. You can’t just go to K-Mart and expect them to be there. (Or maybe they’re more plentiful in the States?) I never saw them until I went to Toronto.
…and speaking of special orders, mine should have arriven at Sam’s by tomorrow! 😀

@WeepingAtlasCedars , can you tell me if your copy is on Capitol, and if so, how many songs it has? The English one supposedly has 14.

^^^ @vonbontee, mine’s on Capitol (I haven’t got enough money to buy a UK one), and it’s got 13 tracks.
Boy, if the UK one has a track we don’t have, I’m gonna be mad!!! Can’t we all have the same album for once???

Wow, that’s strange – maybe the ad I saw was mistaken? I can’t imagine Capitol leaving off one song! Surely it’s easier just to finally have the same album in England and the rest of the world. (On the other hand, I’m going to be annoyed if I paid $3 more for an imported copy if I could’ve had the exact same album for less!)

@vonbontee I’m not in the military. Dark Lord was right, I’m going on a mission for my church. I’m going on the West Central States Mission. It’s up in the northwest of the US. I’ll be there for 2 years with little contact with my family and no non church media (which means no Beatles). It’s a bit scary for a 19 year old, but it’s also exciting.
Anyway, I got Sgt. Pepper today!!!! It is amazing!! It feels like I’m tripping on some drug or something. I love Within You And Without You! It’s the trippiest of them all. I think I like this new sound for the Beatles. I’m excited to see where they’ll go next.

You’re 19, I always thought that you were 18. Also, does the UK version of The Beatles albums drench I Feel Fine and She’s A Woman in reverb, I can’t imagine I Feel Fine without it.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

I am 18, but I have to be 19 here so I can line up my mission with my actual mission. I got to stay period accurate.

RIP, Mr. Brian Epstein 🙁
I was watching the news with my Dad when we heard. “The manager of the Beatle…” and the shocking words that followed. Afterward I was watching my Dad to see if he had any reaction…I had to know how he’d react. He looked vaguely interested, then said (to himself as much as me) “I saw an interview with him once…”, and told me how he figured this Epstein guy was just in it for the money, because otherwise why would any grown adult want to deal with all that Beatles craziness? but he watched this interview, and heard Brian talk about the band’s early days when nobody was making hardly any money at all, and about how proud he was of them, “…and you could tell, he LOVED those guys!” And then he looked at me for my reaction.
…and I was a little stunned (and possibleee still just a little s-t-o-n-e-d from the night before) – I’d never heard my dad say anything positive about the band in anyway ever before! Even when helpfully driving me to the record store to buy the new Beatles album, he’d drop me off with a cheerful, sarcastic “Have fun throwing your money away!”…
And he continued. “He loved ’em when no one else did, and when the kids did but nobody else. And now EVERYBODY the world around loves The Beatles, and he’s not there anymore to see it. That’s tough, man.” (Man?!) “34 is way too young.”
Then he stretched and got up to get his sneakers. “Yep, he loved them, they loved him, everybody loves the Beatles. ‘All You Need Is Love ‘. All You Need Is Love , LOVE/LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED!” He brayed that last part out extra-heartily in his dad-voice, heading out to wash the Corvair, trying to make me laugh without looking back to see if he did.
I giggled.
Thank you Brian Epstein for loving those guys. And for getting my dad to sing the Beatles for real, for the first time ever.

Hey everybody, how is it goin? We haven’t talked in so long!
What do you guys think of “Get Back “/”Don’t Let Me Down “? And do any of you know who this “Billy Preston” is? Surely the Beatles haven’t added a new member like the Byrds??

Get Back makes me nod my head rather forcefully. Is “lifting latches” a real thing or just nonsense?
Do you think “mother Mary” in Let It Be is referring to the Virgin Mary?
I don’t know about you all, but I am angry about everyone going around saying Paul is dead and there’s an imposter in his place.
As for me, I am graduating from uni this year. The time since the Beatles came to America sure has flown by. They sure have given us a world of music. Forever.

Congratulations, that’s exciting! What was your major? Have you a degree? And where did you attend and was there a lot of political activity….oh so many questions! I’m going to be packing up my Beatles albums and Jimi Hendrix posters and heading off to veterinary college. Unless I decide to wait a year, travel, see LONDON!
“Get Back “…I think it’s pretty good. But a bit…quiet? I find lately I’ve been digging the louder sounds, like Jimi. And my girl Janis! And that amazing Led Zeppelin album…everyone go buy it now if you haven’t already! I guess that lately I’m all about sensual guitar buzz, and this song is a bit lacking. I wish they’d made it sound a bit more like “Revolution ” or “Helter Skelter “,…but maybe they’re trying to “Get Back ” to an older sound.

…sorry to break character, but some of these events (PID rumour, “Let It Be ” and “Two Of Us ” release) are six months or more in the future.

Haha yeah I can’t do spoilers on mobile either! In this thread, it is always exactly 50 years in the past, and we are people who lived 50 years ago and are somehow conversing on a futuristic 1960s version of the internet.

The new single’s cool, but it seems a little… I dunno… basic. After what they’ve been doing for the past couple of years, I was a bit surprised to hear something so stripped-back and, frankly, I don’t think Get Back quite makes up for the simplicity with energy… Let It Be is nice, though. I think it’s gonna be a classic.
Then again, I’ve been rocking out to that new Zeppelin album (WOW! that stuff is SO good! My parents can’t stand it, so I only listen to it when they’re not at home, but I honestly think it’s the future of rock) and grooving to some really weird experimental stuff from that band Pink Floyd, so maybe it’s just context…
Hendrix is also cool too — I’ve only heard a few of his songs from my friends, I need to get some of his LPs.

Beatlebug, why did you steal my exact thoughts about “Get Back ” and that otherworldly Led Zeppelin album? That album is such a joy to turn up to 7 or 8 on the headphones and just…sail away. So loud, so pummeling, and so delicate at moments. I think they’ll do some amazing things in the 1970s! That singer is…
…
…well, let’s just say he’s my new lust object, momentarily displacing Jimi, who displaced Jim Morrison, who displaced George (but I still love my George to pieces!)
