Grrrrreat news from the latest issue of Billboard magazine!
NEW BEATLES’ ALBUM, “SERGEANT
Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”
available sometime June.
Beatles all-new 14-track album,
mono/stereo. Order now,
$6.15 cash.
(That’s $6.15 for the cost of importing an English copy to America and presumably Canada too, if the price seems high…)
NEW BEATLES ALBUM to blow our minds just as surely as “Revolver ” and “Strawberry Fields Forever “/”Penny Lane ” did!

Yes, me too!
And I was wondering about that album title myself – remember a few short months ago when we all thought “Strawberry Fields Forever ” sounded like a bizarre name for a song…sounds like they’ve really gone off the deep end this time!

Sgt Pepper ‘s what?! That is the longest album title I’ve heard! Absolutely barmy. Apart from us Beatlemaniacs, no one’s going to be able to remember the title — it probably won’t do very well.
Still, Beatles is Beatles. I’m getting desperate.

I originally thought this was a new band. Are they changing their name?

I’ve been trying to figure that out! There’s no way they’d be changing their own name, so maybe the title is just the way they’re describing themselves. A “lonely hearts club band” sounds like the type of band that Eleanor Rigby would listen to, so that sounds fairly explainable. But that “Sergeant Pepper’s”…that wouldn’t seem to suggest any kind of band as much as an army band playing marching music. Hmm…”Yellow Submarine ” had those few seconds of marching music, and “Penny Lane ” had that middle section with the horns that sounded kind of marchable, so maybe the album’s going to sound like that, at least in part? The last few albums really had all kind of different sounding songs, though, so who really knows what to expect? Guess we’ll just have to wait!
(Me, I’m especially glad I still have one of those joints my sister gave me! Glad I’ve been saving it for a special occasion…and the occasion of this new record’s appearance in stores sometime in June promises to be special indeed!)

I don’t care what the album title is. New music.
Anyway. What the hell is a Rubber Soul , is it something to do with shoes? How can it be A Hard Day’s Night , either it’s one or the either?

Why was their last album named after a gun?

What on earth was John going on about in ‘Strawberry Fields’? “I think ah no I mean ah yes but it’s all wrong. That is I think I disagree”!!!! What the hell!!?
And then you have his books? In comparison to those books ‘Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Clubs Band’ is on a par with flippin’ Shakespeare.

I hope my parents don’t stop me from listening to the Beatles because of them allegedly doing drugs. Although, then again they probably don’t care, as long as I myself am not doing drugs.
I quite like this newer stuff, it’s interesting. Run For Your Life from Rubber Soul is quite amausing, although my sister hates it for being “creepy”. She also hates No Reply from ’65 for the same reason. Revolver was pretty good as well.
I was skeptical about this Straberry Fields Forever song, but I quite like it now. It makes me feel like I’m watching a drug trip while still being sober. It’s a nice experience.

Beatle music is the drug trip, for me… I don’t need the drugs. Then again, I’ve never done them so I don’t know…
I agree with @meanmistermustard, who has mysteriously come round since the days of his sticking up for Elvis… new Beatles music is new Beatles music. It’s been NINE MONTHS since the last LP — I was beginning to fear they weren’t going to do albums any more! Hopefully the fact that is the first Beatles LP in so long will offset the fact that no one will be? able to remember the whole album title.

There’s definitely a lot strange psychedelic music showing up out there…Silly Girl, you’re English, have you heard that record “Arnold Layne” by The Pink Floyd? It’s pretty wild, eh! I’ve never heard it on the radio but my sister found it at Sam The Record Man in Toronto – they have a section where they carry the latest imports from Britain. They carry the REAL versions of Rubber Soul and Revolver and all the rest we were cheated out of over here 😀 🙁

Yes, I have! In fact, I even saw that group perform live a few months back — I was staying with my cousin in London, and she’s into all the new gear. The record is pretty wild, but it’s nothing compared with their live show (what I remember of it, anyway). The live show was absolutely barmy — mad lights, insanely loud music — was it even music or just noise? Anyway, it was quite overwhelming. The record I find quite pleasant by contrast.
Certainly a band to watch!

Seems that psychedelic music and light shows are the way of the future. Most of the San Francisco bands do that now – they play in ballrooms with overhead projectors shining oil-mixed-with-food-colouring up on a screen behind the band. I imagine it helps the LSD users to freak out!
Speaking of San Francisco music, I bought that Jefferson Airplane album, mostly because I really liked “Somebody to Love”. It’s pretty good, and it’s about time there were some more groups with a girl singing!

…and let me just follow up myself by saying that I’m getting PRETTY SICK AND TIRED of being cheated by Capitol Records in this way just because we don’t live in England! The first time I learned that the English Rubber Soul was different from the one we got, I figured “Oh, well…they got a couple of songs that we didn’t get, and we got a couple that they didn’t, so I guess it all works out.” But then they did the same thing with Revolver , only they didn’t even substitute any tracks, just removed three without replacements! (Never mind that we’d already heard those three on Yesterday & Today, as it turned out…) Enough of this. That Billboard ad promised a 14-song album, and by gosh that’s what Capitol better give us or there’ll be hell to pay!!

IT’S HERE!!!
I popped out to get Sergeant Peppers today! I’ll admit I didn’t recognise the album at first because it has such an unusual cover (which I’ll let you see for yourselves.) It is quite a progression from just four lads leaning over a balcony! I’ve just stuck it on, and the first track, you wouldn’t think it’s The Beatles!

EEEE! It’s here! I saw the poster in the record store window! <3
…and AARGH! I can’t buy it because I already paid SEVEN dollars to special order an English import copy (I want all 14 songs, damn it!) and it won’t arrive until the weekend! So I have to be careful reading this chain letter until then in case you give away too much. 🙁
(But. yes that cover is pretty mindblowing itself!)
