Better get saving, going by the past two years we’ve had two albums a year so more music to come. Will at least save my copy of ‘Help !’ from wearing out. With ‘Help !’ and ‘Ticket To Ride ‘ both being a-sides and on the album I hope the next single isnt off an album. I have to have everything so i’m buying songs twice over, three with the e.p’s ahdn_paul_01.

Anyone find ‘Yesterday ‘ a bit strange what with the strings? And are the other Beatles on it, definitely no drums or other vocals? Not had that before. And whats the instrument at the end of ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away ‘, no idea who plays either, surely not a Beatle or George M?

Agreed. The only reason I got the singles was because I liked the B-sides. I’m Down is rather like Kansas City /Hey-Hey-Hey on the Beatles For Sale album, only even more Beatleful. I didn’t even bother with the EPs because I have them all on the LPs already and it’s not like I’m growing money out in the back garden or anything…

I heard it at my friend’s house (the same one who got Beatles For Sale before me… she has all the latest gear) and that struck me as well. Re ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away ‘ I have another friend in the school orchestra who plays alto flute and it sounds a bit like that.

The album is certainly a bit of a change from the previous ones… though I can’t say how exactly; it just feels different. Perhaps I haven’t gotten well acquainted with it yet.

Seems a more relaxed album (if relaxed is the right world), especially side 2 – until you get to ‘Dizzy Miss Lizzy ‘. Blew me half-way across the room!!! Makes up for less outright Rock and Roll.

I dont have much money but i’d rather buy the ep’s than not. Will be odd if no other Beatle is on ‘Yesterday ‘. Supposedly they played it on ‘Blackpool Night Out’ but i forgot it was on. Anyone catch it?

Oh how I wish we got those British shows! I wonder if I will ever get a chance to see them.

With your religious parents believing The Beatles are the Devil’s spawn, @Ahhh Girl, how did you ever persuade them to let you worship at Shea?

They don’t know this, but I overheard them talking about me a few weeks back. Yes, I eavesdropped on my parents. They said that they would let me do a few “wild” things so I would realize that I need to get back to “the straight and narrow”. I’ll let them go on believing this as long as possible as long as they let me do the things I want to do. Heck, I might even put in an “act” of repentance every Now And Then to keep them off balance.

I did, and yes, Paul played Yesterday at the end, alone with a guitar on a darkened stage. Very unusual.

George said something beforehand, by way of introduction, about ‘for Paul McCartney of Liverpool, opportunity knocks!’ Not sure what he meant by that though… his fabosity was distracting me.

Opportunity Knocks was the name of a radio/TV talent show at the time. The title and catchphrase sort of means “if opportunity knocks at your door, you must take it”, or something along those lines. Not sure if there’s an official explanation. I think the winner of each show might have been reintroduced at the end for a second performance with words similar to George’s (who was making a silly joke that this was Paul’s big moment).

Oh, right! But isn’t the show still going? My neighbours watch it– I don’t. I much prefer to spin my Beatles records than watch telly– unless, of course, the Beatles are on.

Which reminds me, I haven’t heard anything of them since Blackpool Night Out (still basking in the memories!). I suppose they might be doing a new record for Christmas… ohmygoodness I can’t wait! What will they come up with next?

You have Beatles records that watch telly! Wow!

And how did an American, living in America (as I believe you are), get to watch Blackpool Night Out (only broadcast in the UK). Surprised you missed them on Ed Sullivan two weeks after! I heard lots of them on this side of the Atlantic about their August tour there.

Haha, very funny @Ron Nasty. a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Did they not show Blackpool Night Out in America? I didn’t know that. And who is this Ed Sullivan when he’s at home?

Hey lads, did you hear?! The Beatles got MBEs!!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of stuffy respectable old people are irritated because the MBEs are being awarded to a scruffy lot of Liverpudlian rock-n-roll upstarts (their words, not mine!), but I think it’s absolutely brilliant! It’s one thing to insist the Beatles are fab and gear and that, but it’s another thing to hear the Queen thinks so too.

My parents have mixed feelings. I think they’re wondering what the Beatles did to earn MBEs. They’re THE BEATLES, that’s all! I think the fact they’re now Members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire makes them warm a bit the their music though– seems they’re more ‘respectable’ now.

The Beatles aren’t going to become more stuffy and straight-laced are they? Are thay going to start doing high-brow music?

Heavens above, can you imagine the Beatles doing high-brow music? I flatter myself I have a pretty good imagination, but I can’t. No, they’ll likely carry on doing the same Fab Four stuff as they’ve always done… only better.

Well, let’s all hope they keep on doing what has made them fab so far.

Hum, maybe they might try to incorporate high-brow in their coming albums. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I was on my way to school this morning and walking with my friend (who is also a Beatlemaniac) and as always, we stopped by the record shop to see if there were any new Beatles releases. AND THERE WERE! beatlemaniacs_02_gif

They’ve got a new single and an album out. I haven’t heard either of them yet, but I’ve been playing the radio as much as I could in hopes that I’ll catch the single. Has anyone else seen the new album yet? I don’t think it’s been out very long, but let me tell you, the cover is weird! It looks like it’s been stretched–like rubber–and the title isn’t any less strange: Rubber Soul . I think it’s a pun on rubber sole, like shoes. Though that does go with the stretched-like-rubber cover.

I can’t wait to hear it. My Christmas wishlist has just been wholly revised.

I never noticed that the Rubber Soul cover was distorted until I read in the Anthology that it was

What Anthology? a-hard-days-night-paul-4

@Little Piggy Dragonguy: this is a role-playing thread. Right now, it’s 1965 and the Anthology is un-dreamt-of. It can be confusing for newcomers to this thread.

I’m holding my breath waiting for the album to come out here.3 days. 3 day. 3 days. I’m dying with anticipation.

I wonder waht The Beatles want for Christmas this year.
