Not sure if there is a thread on this already, just thought it would be an interesting one…
If you one day time travel became a thing, and you were given the opportunity to travel back to the 1960s to see The Beatles and live there, or choose to stay in the present day, which one would you choose and why?

Stay here for sure. If I lived in the 1960s I would have no internet and therefore NO FORUM! Can’t have that. Very bad.
Says “50yearslate” haha.

Stay here for sure. As cool as the ’60s are to think about, I’m utterly spoilt by all this technology. I also like the 20/20 hindsight perspective we have of the time. Plus I have so many other artists who came later that I wouldn’t be able to live without.
(I’m assuming you mean we wouldn’t be able to travel back to the future, otherwise that would be way too easy a question — what Beatles fan wouldn’t want to go back and be a fly on the wall just for one day or something?)

I choose to stay here because of the wealth of sessions and outtakes and footage that has been recovered/restored/released from the vaults.

I’d hate to live in ’60’s Ireland so for that reason I’m out. We didn’t get a swinging ’60’s more of a sexually-repressed, sexist (if you were a girl you had to sit an exam on kitchen skills, only girls of course though), uneducated era but at least we finally got television in 1961, so…yay?

I’d probably go back for a day and collect some souvenirs or something, but I think I would to prefer stay in the present. Easier way to access and discover all the great music/movies/art from then via the internet for me, although I still choose to listen to certain things on vinyl every now and again. Also I wouldn’t want to leave behind my family and friends (that includes you guys!)
I’d love for there to be another kind of 60s fashion/music revival in pop culture again though like there was with the Britpop scene in the 90s. Bring it on!

Well the 60s obviously had a great deal of social problems – I’m glad I don’t live in a Britain where half the population would object to living next to a black person, for instance. And I would like to keep the internet and all the music and film that has come out since then.
Still, the 60s had a lot going for them. It seemed like a very exciting time with a lot of progress being made on many different fronts. Politically, in the space of a couple years Britain abolished the death penalty, brought in civil rights laws to protect women and minorities, legalised abortion, legalised homosexuality and changed divorce laws to allow people to escape failed marriages. It would have been very exciting to be present during all that – I was just talking to my grandmother about this and she said how amazing it was to be a hopeful young person in that time.
But that’s second to the obvious attraction of the 60s – the music! This was a time when giants walked the earth, and to be there would have been incredible. Even if we can listen to it all now, I can’t imagine anything would compare to hearing ‘A Day In The Life ‘ for the first time in ’67. So maybe a tradeoff?

I agree with the general sentiment of staying here. While it would be cool to go back there and witness the music, I’d actually rather to already have all of their music released!
That’s not even considering the external stuff of social norms and of course technology.

Yes, I agree with staying in the present time. Despite not having the Beatles, I actually enjoy modern society, where lots of new technology and music exist and people have made much progress on social issues. Back in the 60s, racism, sexism and homophobia were much more powerful. And I haven’t mentioned if I couldn’t flee to the Western world but had to stay in my country…NOOOO
The ideal solution, I imagine, is to return to the 60s for a few days, meet the Beatles and watch them perform/create great music in the studio, tell John to get back to Britain before Dec. 1980, then come back and enjoy 21st Century. So, keep working, scientists!

John would want us to be excited about tomorrow. He had faith in the future, liked new technology and had interest in the present day. So that’s my answer. Cherish the memories, but life goes on.

As exciting it would had been to have witnessed The Beatles giving their first and only concert in Denmark I’m glad I live in the present because of how easy it is to find all kind of music now with the internet. I do sometimes wish I was born in the late 60’s, so I could had experienced being young in the 80’s and 90’s.
