Speaking of Lucy, Pink Floyd’s ‘Let There Be More Light‘ has the lines ‘For there revealed in glowing robes/ Was Lucy in the sky’.

It’s likely, but if I mentioned it then I shall die of shame.
I do recall mentioning it elsewhere on the boards.

The outer lock rolled slowly back
The servicemen were heard to sigh

Was Lucy in the sky
And yes, I hate “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn”.

aww don’t hate TPATGOD I haven’t heard much from it but I just adore Syd and early Floyd and excuse me while I roll about because of the Beatles being referenced in an early Floyd sooong.

Awesome songs…just thought of another, Summer Rain By Johnny Rivers ….All summer long, we spent dancin’ in the sand,
And the jukebox kept on playin’
Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
I guess it kind of counts.

This one dates me…Ball of Confusion by The Temptations — 1970Fear in the air, tension everywhere
Unemployment rising fast,
The Beatles’ new record’s a gas
And the only safe place to live is
On an indian reservation
And the band played on
I suppose the record mentioned in Ball of Confusion is Let It Be . Correct? If so, I wonder if they knew when they wrote these lyrics to this song that it would be The Beatles last album. Is that part of the world being a ball of confusion at that time? What kind of world would it be without The Beatles, oh my.
I often wonder what it was like to have been a teenager when The Beatles records were “new”. I was 2 when they broke up.

I think they’re referring to Abbey Road , actually. According to Wikipedia, Ball of Confusion was recorded on April 12 and April 14, 1970 and released on May 7, 1970. That would mean that the song was recorded about one month before Let It Be ‘s May 18, 1970 (US) release and was released roughly one and a half weeks before. That said, the Beatles’ split was announced on April 10, 1970, so it is theoretically possible that they might have known about the Beatles’ split while the song was recorded, but, unless the song was written between April 10 and April 12, it was not written with the Beatles’ break-up in mind.
There is, however, a small possibility that they are referring to an early version of Let It Be , as early versions of Let It Be were leaked as far back as Summer 1969, but this seems unlikely.

Can’t it be the ‘Let It Be ‘ single which was released on the 11th March 1970?

That’s a good point. The lyric refers to the Beatles’ ‘new record‘, not ‘album’, so it could well be.

From Neil Sedaka’s 1974 album Sedaka’s Back there is this classic, The Immigrant:
Sedaka was one of John’s character witnesses in his immigration, and the song was dedicated to John on the album, so it’s fair to say that the song was at the least inspired by John’s situation, and there’s a reasonable argument that The Immigrant is John.
Lennonology has John commenting on the song on 30 January 1975 in a telephone interview with Jim Kerr of New York radio station WPLJ-FM:
Normally people call you and they want something – right, it’s very seldom somebody calls you and gives you something. I just think for him to do it, you know, is just beautiful.

David Bowie – Sorrow“With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue”
Bowie’s ‘Sorrow’ is a cover of a 1965 McCoys number which was a hit by The Merseys in 1966. George almost certainly borrowed that line for ‘It’s All Too Much ‘.

Taxman Mr. Theif, by Cheap Trick contains this line:
“He hates you, he loves money
And he’ll steal your sh*t and think it is funny
Like the Beatles, even Dylan
Now, the taxman is out to get you.”

Oh! That reminds me – We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel – British Beatlemania.“All You Wanna Do Is Dance” by Billy Joel – Why don’t the Beatles get back together?
“Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” by Billy Joel – This song doesn’t have a direct lyrical reference to the Beatles, but the fact that it’s a medley made up of smaller unfinished songs is due to inspiration from the Abbey Road medley.
