No, that isn’t a tear welling up in my eye from reading @Ron Nasty’s post.
Well, ok, yes it is.
Wow, that news made me quiver.

I think, looking at how the song was finally structured, why Don abandoned the idea is understandable.
Since it has been described as the “last verse”, it’s likely it would have been where the last two four-line bridges ended up – “And in the streets, the children screamed…” and “The three men I admire most…”. That second ends with a mournful “The day the music died” leading into a mournful repeat of the chorus.
You couldn’t have that with an “and the music was reborn” lead-in. That would demand the more explosive, celebratory version of the chorus.
Just a shame that he couldn’t find a way to use some of those ideas in last four lines in the more up-tempo section of the song.

Are The Good Times Really Over – by Merle Haggard – 1981
I wish a buck was still silver
It was back when the country was strong
Back before Elvis
Before the Vietnam war came alongBefore The Beatles and ‘Yesterday ‘
When a man could still work, still would
The best of the free life behind us now
And are the good times really over for good? Are we rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell?
With no kind of chance
For the Flag or the Liberty BellWish a Ford and a Chevy
Could still last ten years, like they should
Is the best of the free life behind us now?
Are the good times really over for good?I wish Coke was still Cola
And a joint was a bad place to be
It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TVBefore microwave ovens
When a girl could still cook and still would
The best of the free life behind us now
Are the good times really over for good? Are we rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell?
With no kind of chance
For the Flag or the Liberty BellStop rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell
Stand up for the Flag
And let’s all ring the Liberty BellLet’s make a Ford and a Chevy
Still last ten years like they should
The best of the free life is still yet to come
The good times ain’t over for good

From the top of my head, I have two of my ex-favourite band, el Cuarteto de Nos.
La Guerra de Gardel
Y en la radio ya se estaba comentando
que Los Beatles eran de Pando
Sinatra de Tucumán
Translation:
And in the radio they were already saying
that The Beatles were from Pando
Sinatra from Tucumán
To give some context and because I don’t want to translate the full song, it’s about a false war between Uruguay and Argentina because of the birthplace of Carlos Gardel (for those who don’t know, a tango singer and composer who no one is really sure were he was born). Pando is an Uruguayan city and Tucumán is an Argentinian one.
Fui Yo
Maté a Gardel porque el tipo desafinaba
y a Lennon porque Imagine era una idiotez
Translation:
I killed Gardel because he sang out of tune
and Lennon because Imagine was stupid
Context: The song is just about the guy saying he was responsible for some famous crimes.
I know this ones is a bit dark, but I had to put it.
And then there are two tributes, though I’m not a big fan of neither of them (I mean, of the artists, I actually quite like the songs).
Lovely John by Ruben Rada
Adios John, Paul, George y Ringo by Los Bárbaros (just to let you know, this one is from 1976)
"We think George Harrison is the most marvelous thing since boys were discovered." - Diane and Jenny of Bedford, the smartest girls ever.

A pioneer of Texas swing and early rock, Moon Mullican (1909-1967), apparently wrote a song (probably near the end of his life in the 60s) called “I Ain’t No Beatle, But I Wanna Hold Your Hand”… (!)
Alas, I can’t find it anywhere…
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart,
a coffee dessert, yes you know it's good news...

I’ve been meaning to post this for some time: Dala Girls’ ‘Lennon and McCartney’ (obviously!). Though Lennon and McCartney are used more as a metaphor than anything else, it still counts, and hey, if you know enough about them to use them as a metaphor, then that’s good. I think the Dala Girls are Beatlefans. Yet another reason for me to like them.
The music video is in spoiler below: see the Sgt Pepper /Yellow Submarine reference at 1:38.
Lyrics:
He takes sugar in his cup of coffee
I like honey in my tea.
Thinks he’s starring in some West Side Story
where every girl is seventeen.
He buys records for the virgin vinyl
I scratch “I love you” in the grooves.
Takes me dancing on the sunny sidewalk
but he doesn’t even move.
La la la la love him, even though
He’s na na na na not a, perfect Romeo
I don’t want to read what Shakespeare wrote
I just want to feel it, feel it, feel it.
Just another guy who lost his glasses
looking for his Annie Hall.
He like Lennon for the heavy meanings,
me I’m still in love with Paul
La la la la love him, even though
He’s na na na na not a, perfect Romeo
I don’t want to read what Shakespeare wrote
I just want to feel it, feel it, feel it.
I don’t want to read what Shakespeare wrote
I don’t want to read what Shakespeare wrote
La la la la love him, even though
He’s na na na na not a, perfect Romeo
I don’t want to read what Shakespeare wrote
I just want to feel it, feel it, feel it.

There are a lot of songs in post 27. I’m not going to copy them here.
Here are the songs we all have come up with so far. I haven’t taken the time to see if any are duplicates of songs in post 27. I have these sorted by title so you can easily find the one you are looking for to see if it has already been posted. Or you can use control+f and search for the song. Some of the songs are about a Beatle / a Beatle’s work during their solo career.
I didn’t include songs by The Beatles that they sang during their solo careers. Here’s the thread on that topic – solo songs about Beatlemania. Also, I didn’t include Beatles songs that mention other Beatle songs – that thread is here.
I thought about doing this project so that @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^< can add the Dutch songs to this thread.

Don’t believe I saw these two posted yet:
1) Key West Intermezzo (I Saw You First) – John Mellencamp
In the hand painted night me and F. Scott are partners
At the hotel flamingo wearing blackmarket shoes
And this loud cuban band crucifying John Lennon
No wants to be lonely no wants to sing the blues
2) When – Shania Twain
This is from her album Come On Over:
I’d love to wake up smiling full of the joys of spring
And hear on CNN that Elvis lives again
And that John’s back with the Beatles and they’re going out on tour
I’ll be the first in line for tickets, gotta see that show for sure

I believe somebody earlier mentioned one of those songs about wanting a Beatle for Christmas but I don’t recall which one. There are actually four different songs like this:
All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle – Dora Bryan
Then we have three distinct songs called I Want A Beatle For Christmas, each with its own melody and lyrics by:
Becky Lee Beck
Patty Surby & the VIPs
The Fans (my favorite of the bunch)
All of these can be heard on You Tube.
Then we have that novelty song by Alan Sherman called Pop Hates The Beatles. Those of you who lived through Beatlemania probably hated this song for daring to insult our lads. But I bet our conservative parents liked it.
You are all my friends.

I wouldn’t really count this one. Just because it includes the words “Live And Let Die ” doesn’t necessarily make it a Beatles reference. Remember, it was the title of a James Bond novel twenty years before it was a Paul McCartney song.
