As I’m currently reading Tune In extended version I am reading about lots of the songs which The Beatles were inspired by and included in their live setlists. I sought out some of the songs and then decided to compile a Spotify playlist of everything known to have been played live and I have taken just 1961 for now and it was an important breakthrough year. I’m not as interested in their post fame setlists as they are much more well known.
There are many obvious songs the Beatles covered like Johnny B Goode etc but also many quite obscure B sides which aren’t as well known. I have tried to use the actual versions of the songs which The Beatles would have heard and been inspired by and it’s a great little insight into what they would have heard and been moved by. I’m sure there’s more to add I’m up to around 80 songs and maybe there’ll be some more suggestions. Perhaps I’ll even get around to 1962.
