Yeah it has. Probably because a) it does sound very Beatley, and b) this thread is (now) 10 pages, and 181 posts long. That’s a lot to sift through to see what has already been posted.
Funny thing about that song – to me, the lead vocal sounds very similar to Tom Evans’ lead vocal on Badfinger’s version of ‘Come And Get It ‘.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Jeff Lynne’s cover of the classic standard “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” sounds, if not terribly Beatles-ish per se, remarkably Paulish (and polished…).

@C.R.A. mentioned Gary Gibson in the Tribute Bands thread. In the early ’80s, looking like a Hamburg-era Lennon, and sounding like a ’63-’64 era John, he fronted a band called Cavern, who sounded a tad Beatle-ish:
Released in 1982, I actually have the EP, and No Reason to Cry is even more Beatle-ish, but – alas – not on YouTube.
From a year earlier, The Bootles (who later became The Ringers):
Both bands are almost tribute bands, but not quite because they’re performing original material.

I present to you, Los Shakers, or as they called them back in the day “the Uruguayan Beatles”. They were this kind of band that was insipired by the Beatles and had the same look and these kind of things, but it’s not like they did covers, they actually wrote their own material. This is their first and greatest hit:
After that, they became very successful in South America and recorded an album to release it in the USA, but it wasn’t very successful, mainly because they didn’t want to tour the States because they thought they’d have problems communicating. Ironically, they sang in English (and the song titles were in Spanish ). Nevertheless, they continued touring South America and released 3 albums.
In 1968 they released La conferencia secreta del Toto’s Bar, which was their last album because their recording label didn’t like their new sound and left them, and they split up shortly after. It’s kind of a mix of rock with candombe and tango and I think people call it their Sgt Pepper ‘s.

Hello all. First time poster here. I’ve been perusing this thread for a couple days now looking for suggestions for my “Sounds Like The Beatles 2” mix. I made the first “Sounds Like The Beatles” mix way back in 2005, and I just recently rediscovered it. It’s fantastic if I do say so myself! 🙂 I’m quite sure not everyone will agree with the choices, but I’ve listened to these songs together and in this order on and off for about 10 years, so it’s almost impossible to hear them in any other context now! I didn’t write any notes describing individual songs, but I did include YouTube links for all but one. For me these 22 songs really capture the spirit of the Beatles, whether it be songwriting, production techniques, or just plain imitation.
Without further ado:
1. Badfinger – No Matter What
2. The Wonders – That Thing You Do!
3. The Rutles – I Must Be In Love
4. Klaatu – We’re Off You Know
5. The Apples in Stereo – Strawberryfire
6. Simian – LA Breeze
7. Billy Joel – Laura
8. Tears For Fears – Sowing the Seeds of Love
9. The Vines – Factory
10. Jellyfish – Sabrina, Paste and Plato
11. Emitt Rhodes – Lullaby
12. Jet – Look What You’ve Done
13. The Vinyl Kings – Here We Go Again
14. Cotton Mather – Lily Dreams On
15. Garth Brooks – Maybe (NO YOUTUBE LINK!)
16. Crowded House – Not The Girl You Think You Are
17. Elliott Smith – Baby Britain
18. The Rutles – Another Day
19. The Vinyl Kings – Dreams
20. Oasis – Don’t Look Back In Anger
21. Aqualung – Brighter Than Sunshine
22. Tears For Fears – Everybody Loves A Happy Ending
My “Sounds Like The Beatles 2” mix is in the early stages. But I’ve gotten quite a few awesome tracks from this thread already!
The Monkees – “Last Train to Clarksville”
The Knickerbockers – “Lies”
The Merry-Go-Round – “Listen Listen”
The Twilights – “If She Finds Out”
The Aerovons – “She’s Not Dead”
Lazy Smoke – “How Was Your Day Last Night”
The Cyrkle – “Red Rubber Ball”
Grapefruit – “Lullaby For A Lazy Day”
We All Together – “Ozzy”
Utopia – “I Just Want to Touch You”
Squeeze – “If I Didn’t Love You”
The Spongetones – “She Goes Out”

The song “More Than Words” reminds me of a Beatles harmony. This is awesome because it is a fairly modern song. Vocally, they sound nothing like the Beatles–but the harmonies, dissonance, acoustics, syncopation, and lyrics seem like something they would write. 🙂 (Whoa, the guy on the right has good hair.)

I don’t think anybody mentioned The Romantics or The Knack. Those and many of the other “skinny tie” bands of the era had a power pop sound that often reminded me of the Beatles or at least the Mersey Beat sound of many other British bands from the British invasion. The Romantics’ first album certainly fits before they changed their style a bit.
While listening to Little Steven’s Underground Garage radio show, he once played a song called Until You Came Along by the Singles. If you are looking for a more recent band that fits this topic, I think this one qualifies. I wound up buying CD and whole album sounds like this.
You are all my friends.

I think that “Stuck in the Middle With You” by Stealers Wheel sounds like something the Beatles would write without imitating their sound outright. 🙂
Coincidentally I was just reading in Geoff Emerick’ book that he engineered on this record and it was recorded at the Apple studio in Saville Row!

I only read through the last few pages of this topic, so I don’t know for sure if this has been mentioned: Sam Phillips — Martinis and Bikinis, the whole album. It’s a gem of an album, produced by her then-husband T-Bone Burnett and sounds ever-so-Beatles-ish despite the female lead voice. The last song on the album is a cover of Gimme Some Truth , which, oddly, is the least Beatles-ish sounding song on the album, at least to my ears.
The mentions of the Knickerbockers’ Lies reminds me that I was convinced that it was the new Beatles single when it first came out — I guess that I heard it a few times before I ever heard the name of the band!

I’m a big fan of Crowded House and they’ve always had Beatley elements in their music. I also think Neil Finn has some Lennon-like qualities to his voice
This has a real Lennon feel to it:
In My Command – Crowded House
And here’s a couple more of their most Beatley songs:
Four Seasons in One Day – Crowded House (This is a beautiful looking video)
It’s Only Natural – Crowded House
I’ve got plenty more other bands to suggest so ….I’ll be back

You would be hard pressed to find a song more “Paul” than this one. Admittedly it’s perhaps more wings than Beatles. In the film Role Models there was a running joke that this song was by Wings. It was actually recorded as a Wings-soundalike song using a guy who played Paul in a Beatles tribute band. I thought it sounded like a really cute song untill I just realised the lyrics are actually about seeking out prostitutes (..at least I think).
