From Ringo’s “After All These Years” on his Time Takes Time album. That album (along with Walls & Bridges and Band On The Run ) kept me company on the train ride from Milan to Venice.
We didn’t have the time to think things over
We had a lot of fun, we had some tears
Steppin’ out of loneliness, now the road
Don’t seem so long after all these years
…
Travelin’ the world in a rock ‘n roll band
It’s in my blood, it’s in my blood
I love Ringo more and more every day.

Paul’s 1987 Return To Pepperland is a nod back to the days
Return to Pepperland
go back to love and peace, return today
Return to Pepperland
it’s not a mile away…… Dear old dad, what are you writing now?
twenty years later who would have guessed

Ringo’s tribute song to George, ‘Never Without You’, opened with these lines:
We were young, it was fun
And we couldn’t lose
Times were right, overnight
We were headline news
Crazy days and reckless nights
Limosuines and bright spotlights
We were brothers through it all
The rest of that song is so great, I’m going to add more of it here.
And your song will play on without you
And this world won’t forget about you
Every part of you was in your song
Now we will carry on
Never without you
Within you, without you
Here comes the song, it’s about you
Here today, not alone
With my memories
Life is strange, how things change
It’s reality
You played a beautiful melody
That keeps on haunting me
I can always feel you by my side
I know All Things Must Pass
And only love will last
I’ll always love the memory of you and me
Awww, Ringo, that’s so sweet. Have an apple.

What song that Paul did for George? And what song that Ringo did for John? I’ve seen them and the name somewhere, but I can not remember where …
Already take advantage and ask you, for you, what is the best: All those years ago,Here today or Never without you?
For me, melodically, All those years ago wins, but I think it lacked a bit of sentimentality (I can not blame George, his relationship with John was not the best), more friendship. Here today is to cry, the lyrics and the melody it goes on the idea that the day John died, he did the lyrics. Never without you, is to cry too. The difference is that the melody and the lyrics it gives me the idea that Ringo was remembering all the happy moments with George. But please friends, I like to hear all these songs, and get emotional with them all!
I would like to hear from you, so we will discuss and arrive at a consensus together! Hugs

This part from Ringo’s song Some People on his Choose Love album is a nod to The Beatles song The Word
At the end of the day
Love is the only wordAnd there’s nothing to say
It’s the best word we’ve ever heard
And another one from Ringo…
Ringo mentions Sexy Sadie in his song Devil Woman on his Ringo album.

John recorded a song in 1973 called I know. I really believe that is an apology to Paul (for believing in Klein). And I also believe that the part where he says “is getting better, all the time” he is referring to the music of The Beatles, Getting Better . This song moves me so much, the lyrics and melody …
Miss you John!

What led up to this post: I asked a question in the questions to ask Paul in an interview thread. Kite playfully responded, and my reply contained lyrics from Ballroom Dancing, a song on McCartney’s Tug Of War album. So that got me in the mood to listen to that album. When I heard the title track, it hit me that the song could be, at least partially, about Paul and John. So I Googled the idea. An article came up that mentions the tug-of-war between John and Paul that I then posted about in the Powers of Two thread.
From the song
It’s a Tug Of War
What with one thing and another
It’s a Tug Of WarWe expected more
But with one thing and another
We were trying to outdo each other
In a Tug Of WarIn another world
In another world
We could stand on top of the mountain
With our flag unfurledIn a time to come
In a time to come
We will be dancing to the beat played
On a different drumIt’s a Tug Of War
Though I know I mustn’t grumble
It’s a Tug Of WarBut I can’t let go
If I do you’ll take a tumble
And the whole thing is going to crumble
It’s a Tug Of WarPushin’, pushin’, pullin’, pullin’
Pushin’, pullin’

Miss you John!
Many believe it written as an apology of sorts to Yoko. When you read the lyrics, it could just as easily have been written to Paul as you say. John was always quick with an action whether it was right or wrong. If he was wrong, he was big enough to admit it and apologize.
BTW, the brief Wiki article about the song cites The Beatles Bible as a source!

I’ve heard this several times before, but it just now hit me to add it here.
I’m listening to Ringorama as I am working on the library inventory.
In Write One for Me, a duet with Willie Nelson, we get these lines…
And It does no good for you to play a pretty song like ‘Yesterday ‘
‘Cause that’s not what I need to say to get her to love me
The line starts at about 1:05 in the video.

This may be a stretch, but maybe not. This is how Paul felt about John (and perhaps about George and Ringo too) after the breakup. The song is on Paul’s Press To Play album that came out in 1986. It may just be a retrospective on the late ’70’s.
Angry
What the hell gives you the right to tell me what to do with my life
Especially when you made a mess of every chance you had of success.
Look at you…Just look at you, I said I’m angry just looking at you.I’m sick and tired of sitting back and listening
To all of your clap-trap.
If you could get me to take the rap I guarantee
You’d leave me with a backslap.
Push me to the left, push me to the right,
Try to take me out of the way.
Even if you kick me off the edge of the world,
You’re still going to hear me say…What the hell gives you the right to tell me what to do with my life
Especially when you made a mess of every chance you had of success.
Look at you…Just look at you, I said I’m angry just looking at you.Shouting down again mahama. Shouting down again.
Shouting down again mahama. Shouting down again.
I can’t begin to tell you all the reasons
Why you’re making me crazy.
I’ve got so many answers.
Like you’re stupid, like you’re crooked,
Like you’re lazy.
Hit me with your left, hit me with your right,
Hit me from the top to the toe.
Even when you chew me up and spit me out,
I’m still going to want to know. What the hell gives you the right to tell me what to do with my life
Especially when you made a mess of every chance you had of success.
Look at you…Just look at you, I said I’m angry just looking at you.Shouting down again mahama. Shouting down again.

Ringo’s Postcards From Paradise
I’ve searched Here, There And Everywhere
Until I saw you standing there
I’m the greatest fan of you
And love is all I’ve gotta do
It’s All Too Much , my Little Child
If you would be my Honey Pie
8 days a week you will be mine
And getting better all the time
I’m begging you Don’t Pass Me By
And if you do, please tell me why
I know you told me yesterday
You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
But if your heart is bad to me
It’s Only Love , I’ll let it be
Postcards from paradise
With All My Loving , I’ll be true…
Postcards from paradise
As ever, P.S. I love you
Postcards from paradise
I wouldn’t trade you For No One
I see your face, Here Comes The Sun
And I ain’t going nowhere, man
Because I Want To Hold Your Hand
It’s like I said the night before
I’ll love you when I’m 64!
I know that We Can Work It Out
There ain’t no need to Twist And Shout .
And I won’t back off boogaloo
Unless you say you Love Me Do

Ahhh Girl quoted ‘Tug Of War ‘
In another world
We could stand on top of the mountain
With our flag unfurled
Sorry if I’m derailing the thread, but that reminds me very strongly of another song about the good old days of a band– ‘High Hopes‘ by Pink Floyd. It contains the lines
At a higher altitude and with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzying heights of that dreamed-of world
which I always took to refer to when they made it big– really big– with The Dark Side Of The Moon album.
Tug Of War would have been twelve years earlier, but I rather doubt that it influenced the other. Anything’s possible, though.

Paul was commentating on the media, has nothing to do with the Beatles.

Oh really? Sounds suspiciously similar to George’s grousing-about-the-press songs that came out the year after (‘Devil’s Radio’ and a part of ‘Wreck Of The Hesperus’).
