He was a musically talented guy and he always seemed like a very nice person but at least he lived to be 90. People are lucky to live to be 80.

Welcome, @revlover . Very nice words for Sir George.
The news is sad, but every thought of him makes me smile. His work with The Beatles aside, he had a rich rewarding career as well as a loving wife and family. Every word I’ve ever heard or read about him has been in glowing terms. He will be sorely missed while being fondly remembered.
R.I.P. Sir George Henry Martin CBE

Was in the wrong place.
Rest in Peace, George Martin.
I just heard the news. I’m greatly saddened by George’s passing, but he truly did live a long and fulfilling life. His production shaped the recordings of The Beatles in many ways, and as a mentor and musician, he impacted their music greatly.
I’ve been meaning to start a discussion about his production and emphasis on vocals possibly due to his start as a comedy producer. It’s been over a year, should probably get to it.
Great man, great impact, will be missed.

I heard it when I woke up this morning like the majority of ye here. Sean Lennon posted something along the lines of “RIP George” and I thought “George Martin dead? Ha no, he’s a legend, he’s eternal”…….’fraid not 🙁
R.I.P George, you wonderful musician, producer and man!
To lighten the mood on this gloomy day on my lunch break I was in a restaurant and just as I was getting up to go back to work, two elderly men sitting at the table next to me said:
“D’ya know another Beatle died?”
– “Yeah the fifth one”
“Yeah the one that wrote all their songs”
…
…
…
I almost laughed in front of them but managed to contain it, I think George himself would have found that hilarious.

Sad and mostly wistful. What a life! And what a great combination of talent and humility.
He did much more than work with the Beatles!
Just did a radio tribute back in January in honor of his 90th birthday:

If that is the same as this, I highly recommend it. It is a wonderful documentary. As a bonus, at the end of the film Sir George teaches you how to make the perfect martini!

I have always been so fond of Sir George. What a happy accident of time and space to place him with the Beatles at the time when they most needed a muscal mentor, instructor and boundless source of inspiration. And how he must have reveled in the opportunity to work with such unique geniuses and accomplished vocalists and musicians. It was such a wonderful symbiotic relationship. All this, together with the fact, mentioned before, that he appears to have been universally admired for his conduct, personality and old-world gentility.
All reasons to celebrate his life and to remember his brilliant accomplishments.

Mr. Kite, Beatlebug, sigh butterfly, BeatleSnutI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.
